It seesm that in Hobart anyway there are so many 'nasties' going round and b that I mean illnesses.
The school is losing students left, right and centre from either a nasty gastro bug, a virus that seems to affect the head, giving headaches, dizziness and'wondering' eyes and the most awful cough and cold.
My second son has been ill since last Thursday with what started out as a croup cough but has turned in to the nastiest cough and cold I ahve ever seen a child have, we had 5 nights of temps of 40 degs, finally he has turned a corner but is still not ready to return to school.
The bad news is our littlest has woken up this morning rasping when he breathes and our eldest is moaning of a sore throat, I too have a sore throat. I really hope we don't get what ds#2 has had, especially not the little one. I don't feel as if I have slept for a week (I haven't so that is probably why!) and I know if the other two get it then that will be it - no more sleep for another week!
SO if you live in the Hbart area and you are all well I suggest you lock yourself up in your home and stay there for a few weeks!!!

Grr,
picked eldest son up from school, he was feeling a bit unwell, fell asleep before dinner - not a good sign and is now sporting a temp of 40 degs. Our second son who has previously had nights after nights of high temps has gone the opposite, he feels freezing cold but sweaty at the same time with a temp of 34 degs? What does that mean?
Another sleepless night ahead, I love being a mum but I hate this worry I am always so scared for the boys, I think I was always but having a lost a child I know the pain it brings and never ever want to go through that again - I am such a paranoid mother and always assume the wrose when they are ill!!!!
Our little one still as a horrid cough and is a bit wheezy but his temp feels OK for now - lets hope that is how it stays.
I hope you are all having a speedy recovery!

34 is very low and should be looked into as 35 is considered cold in my first aid manual I have here.
Hope everything is ok, it is hard moving states and countries as you are exposed to new bugs and germs which you tend to pick up in easily till you build your antibodies to them.

Hey Lynda - I hope your boys are feeling better? Have they been to the Dr?
If you dont have one I can recommend Salamanca Medical - They bulk bill too, so that helps if you are a little short of cash!

Thanks Ladies,
Yes the boys are OK, I spent a lot of time on the phone that night to the 24hr emergency service in Derwent Park somewhere. There was a lovely lady on there and she talked me through a few things to try and raise his temp.
It seems that it may be that as it was 48hrs since he had been on antibiotics it is likely that it was the time is fever broke so he probably had a massive sweat, pushed off his covers and then dramatically cooled down as the sweat evaporated, his pjs were wet so not keeping him warm and of course no covers.
We had to wipe him down with luke warm water, put warm pjs on him, cover him and also wake him to make sure he was coherent. As time went on you could almost see the colour returning to him and his temp increasing.
It is funny really I can cope with very high temps, we are always told what to do with that but I was thinking of all my hypothermia training I had done and wondering whether I should have been doing that.
Thank you for the recommendation of doctors, we actually use Long Beach Medical centre as when we first moved here we lived near it in lower Sandy Bay, they too bulk bill but I have had lots of people say Salamanca is good as well as a couple of others. In fact one of my friends husband is a Dr at the Salamanca one and she has recently become a receptionist there - small world eh?
Anyway the little one that had the low temp is much better now, he just has a thick cold, the one that had 40 degs now has no temp but has totally lost his voice and the little little one has a nasty cough but doesn't seem too bad otherwise.
I am hoping next week they will all be OK for school/creche and I can have some 'me' time!
Thanks again for your posts.
