Hi ,

I have terribly hormonal skin and am VERY prone to acne (On my face only, luckily).

I used to have bad breakouts just before my period before I was pregnant, but now that I am pregnant again, my skin is just horrendous!

I have sooooo many pimples and I am just feeling so horrible and down :crying:.

Before falling pregnant again I was using Pro-Active which was fabulous and definately worked for me, but as soon as I got that BFP I stopped using it due to the harsh chemicals.

I am just wondering what products others use during pregnancy that have the same problem???

I am a fan of Nutrimetics and was considering trying their 'Clear' Skincare range. Has anyone used this?

Or does anyone have any other product recommendations that have helped with their pregnany/hormonal acne???

Thanks in advance .

I suffered severely since I was 17 with acne (now 27). All of my treatments I have to stop while trying and pregnant (pill, washes, and creames) because they may cause birth defects.

While not on the treatment I use Neutrogena Oil Free Wash and the Daily Black Head scrub, alternating them. Moisturiser I use there Oil Free UV one for sensitive skin (its still important to moisturise to replace the oil being stripped when washing, sounds strange but it helps balance the skin).

I have used the clear skin range before and not really a fan. The amount of different products I have used over the last 10 years and still prefer neutrogena when I cant use my medicated washes.

Unfortunetly usually pregnancy causes the skin to be really defiant. My first pg it tripled the problem but this pg for the first time in 10 years I have completely clear skin and I am loving it, my gp cannot believe how well its going, fingers crossed it stays after birth.

Ive jsut continued using what I was using, Nutrometics.. My face cleared up before I fell pregnant when I stopped using all make up.

I used to use proactive once and it did wonders.. will start doing that again.

But ive been told during Pregnancy the hormones will do that, and whilst BF also.

Thanks ladies!

Nice to know I'm not alone!

bel04 - I think I'll try the Neutrogena gear before I spend $100 on the Nutrimetics! I used to use Neutrogena when I was a teenager and it wasn't too bad from memory. I like the idea of alternating a wash and a scrub, plus I am already using that exact moisturiser! I really like it - Thanks again!

I have been using a garnier (sp) combined cleanser and exfoliater then using whitehazel. Letting it dry then using just a simple moisturiser. It has worked brilliantly for me.

The thing is, all the washes/creams/lotions/potions assume that your skin is unclean, and it's the bacteria and dirt getting caught in the pores and getting an infective reaction behind the blockage (of the dirt) that causes pimples.

In pregnancy, it's a hormonal response, so topical treatments are unlikely to work, unfortunately. I mean, of course you need to keep your skin clean and well hydrated (water internally is better than any topical moisturiser for that, BTW), but aside from that there's really not a lot you can do except wait for your hormones to change sufficiently not to produce this skin reaction - usually a couple of days after you give birth.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Haven't heard of Whitehazel Gumby. What does it do and where do you get it/how do you apply it?

Whilst I know all of this is true, I have ALWAYS had hormonal skin, but have managed to control it with products in the past. I know it will not eleviate the problem entirely, but I am after anything that can help minimise it in the meantime! It's not nice feeling/looking awful all the time! BTW it took 2 Months for my skin to calm down after my last birth!

Ah yes, Witchazel, thought that might have been what Gumby was talking about! Thanks for the info Cort, will give it a go! I also don't wear make-up much, maybe once a week if that!

I'm finding that my skin is breaking due to the hormones and the HEAT!

I used witchazel when I was a teen, it worked really well. I'll have to get some.

I've always had acne-prone skin. Until 2008 (when I started using Proactiv) I always had pimples..more around "that time of the month" but even in between periods I'd always have pimples. During my 1st pregnancy (2002) I had more than I'd ever had in my life.

Since 2008...I've only ever had 1 or 2 on my face and they've never been massive or nasty. Most of the time I don't have any anymore :) This pregnancy, I did have a few more than usual up until my 2nd trimester..but it wasn't anything make up couldn't cover. I've just kept using my Proactiv and it's really helped. Sounds like I'm advertising for them but I'm not lol :D

I'm feeling your pain too guys- I had horrible acne for my first trimester, fortunately it cleared up after week 14 or so, BUT be very careful about squeezing/popping (i know, gross) as I'm now 35 weeks and still have scarring from when i had the acne. My GP gave me an anti-bacterial wash and the acne cleared up a few weeks later, but hard to say whether it was that or just my hormones calming down.

I have to say Proactiv never worked for me. I guess it's a case of each to their own. drinking plenty of water also seems to help me.

I've been battling horrid breakouts since going off the pill a month ago, I find the only thing that helps is making up a solution of a tea spoon of salt in like a quarter of a cup of water and dabbing it on my face. Let it dry and wash off. Works wonders :)
