I am interested to hear what kind of cake you got/made for your childs first birthday.
I am considering getting an icecream cake but would love to hear other suggestions.
Ultimately at that age the child does not care but it is a wonderful photo opportunity for them to look back at later.

I made a Monkey Cake (http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g177/Brions_Mum/8af9df20.jpg) for Brion's first birthday. I got the pic from a sweatband I saw in Best N Less, took a pic of it with my phone and drew a template up from there. I got a slab of chocolate sponge from Coles, and decorated it.

for my daughter it was simple.. it was an icecream cake so she could eat it with DELIGHT!! they are the best from Dairy Bell they do great cakes.. for first bday was a Star shaped with white icing and pink outline with name on it and 1st birthday written on it.. and for her 3rd birthday we had a princess stand up doll kind of cake icecream cake also from Dairy Bell.. as I wanted the other kids to be eat it with delight and want more too so I chose the easiest one IceCream YUMMMMM!! :chef: We are very luckly, my mum makes all the kids birthday cakes for me. She makes them for the Aus Women's Weekly cake books. For 1st birthday we have had B1 and B2, a number one. Still working out that Ben will have for his 1st birthday (9 Sep).

We brought Summer a princess icecream cake from Wendy's as i am not too great at making cakes  then MIL turned up to her party with a HUGE cake with 'happy first birthday summer' on it & her photo on it- it was so nice!! Then my friends mother also made her a cake for her birthday too. In the end we had 3 cakes- we ate the one MIL made as it was the biggest at her party & kept the rest for us :D Were eating cake for days!

For DD 1st bday i brought a fergusons cream/sponge cake in the shape of a '1' it was decorated with flowers and butterflies..
for her 2nd bday we had a home made Dorothy Dinosaur
3rd bday was a fergusons cream cake in the shape of a Dinosaur (blue) and we also had a homemade 'Little Foot' cake.
My DD doesnt like cake, so was kinda a waste.. but it looks nice in the photos.

my DS is gonna have a train cake... i am going to attempt to make it... but thats not until 31st Jan

A while back I was at a friend's sons first birthday she had brought cupcakes and the were arranged in a 1. Not sure if they were very expensive or not but they were absolutely delicious. I think they had trouble getting a good picture as all their son wanted to do was get one of those cupcakes. lol... :) Megan
