My DS is 9 months and just this last week or so its become painful to feed him. My nipples are very sore when he latches on and starts feeding, it eases thoughout the feed though. I've tried re-attaching him (which he hates!). When he comes off, my nipples aren't sore, red, aren't misshapen and they look perfectly fine. Its not thrush (had that for almost 2 months in the beginning) or mastitis.
I'm wondering if it could be my periods coming back as i haven't yet had one. Any thoughts?

I was going to say thrush to, sometimes you may not see if because it can be internal?? Might not hurt to do a treatment. I had no problems with pain when my periods came back though.

i was gonna say pregnancy, too. i hated breastfeeding while i was pregnant. it was dreadful.. dd self-weaned when i was around 7 months pregnant, though.

He's got 3 teeth up the top just sitting there under the gums; i've been thinking they're about to come through for about a week now. I thought maybe pregnancy too...but i've done 3 tests in the last 3-4 weeks and all negative. the last two days i've had bad bloating and pelvic pain. Could it be possible to be pregnant with negative HPT's cos of the hormones with breastfeeding??

It could be your period returning. I know that my nipples are really sore and painful the week before they are due (although with b/f they are really irregular). DD3 also fusses a bit at this time so when she is latching on and off frequently during a feed it is painful. It lasts for a few days and then it is all good again.

Not sure about the b/f intefering with HPT, but I was still b/f DD1 when a HPT came up positive with DD2.

BFing has become a bit uncomfortable for me now that DS has teeth. Wasn't so bad with the bottom teeth, but now he has a top one, even when he doesn't bite, it still feels a bit different.
So I second the teething theory.
With the HPT, it isn't affected at all by BFing hormones as far as I know.:)

I was thinking teeth...my nipples feel like they have been shredded with razor blades when DD is teething...and it is more painful before they come through....ouch

Ovulation? I hate feeding when I'm ovulating. It's really super painful, and as you describe it's the latch that's worst.

Hi jaspat. Sorry to hear you're having some issues. I've been having the same the last week too. It's like a wrong attachment pain (but I know her attachment is fine) and eases as the feed goes on. As others have said I think it's teething and for Abi her gums getting harder as we don't actually have any teeth yet!

cool thanks heaps for all your replies! So...i think i ovulated last night (sorry if TMI) going from CM and pelvic pain...so that might be why. Also i'm thinking it might be teeth too. It seems better today, didn't hurt hardly at all!
