breastfeeding make you hungry

Yes I'm ravenous - I'm trying to keep it relatively healthy, but don't always succeed at that LOL.

When I was full on BFing (the first six months) I don't think there was much time when I didn't have food in my mouth.

Now we have stopped all but two feeds, I have a 'normal' appetite again. (eg I actually get full)

I'm pretty hungry a lot.

I try and keep a lot of low fat snacks around that can be consumed really, really fast! I also eat a lot of cereal at random times of the day, ice cream and chocolate :D

Yep I was always hungry in the first 6 months but found that once solids were well established my hunger went back to normal!;)

Definitely more hungry while bf'ing, particularly the earlier months.

What I did find though was that if I had a day where I drank less water than my usual 3-4lt, I was more hungry. Sometimes hunger can actually be a sign of dehydration - and given how much fluid our body is using and giving away, it's worth considering. After a few months I tried drinking a glass of water every time I felt hungry. If it was water that I needed, the hunger went away within about 15mins. If it was truly hunger, it wouldn't go away, and after about 20mins I'd eat something.

DD is 8 months old and I'm still a little miss piggy! She doesn't eat solids so I'm still EBF and going to the gym 4 days a week. I haven't gained any weight so I figure I need it and just keep stuffing my face!

OMG I was a bottomless pit when I was breastfeeding. I actually put ON weight :eek:
I remember at Christmas DD was about 5 weeks old and I went home to my mum's for Xmas and pretty much cleaned out all the Xmas day leftovers singlehandedly....she couldn't believe it.
It was faaaar worse than the pregnancy hunger :D

I agree, it is far worse than pregnancy hunger. I have never eaten so much in my life! My dd is 5 mths now and she feeds often. I am going to try drinking a glass of water before eating next time and see if that takes the edge off the hunger.

My dd wakes every hour at night, so my hunger is also due to sleepless nights. I crave sugar, especially chocolate! I try to keep it to a limit though (doesn't always work).

OMG YES!!! Food, food and more food. I've hit the 6 month mark and solids havent made any difference to my appetite yet. I havent gained any weight at all (havent lost any either) and I pretty much lived on Bikkies and Milo for the first 6 weeks in between huge meals. My kids still question me how I can eat so much and not be fat!

I am ALWAYS starving!!! Iam eating again right now!!! I try to keep it healthy but can't get through a day without chocolate!!!!:yes: glad to know I'm not alone!!

i was always hungry when i was breastfeeding. in the early days i was always starving after the 3am feed. i used to make sure i had a stash of muesli bars.

and thirsty??? even when i didn't get as hungry towards the end of my year of breastfeeding, i ALWAYS thirsty.

The great thing is that breast feeding seems to keep you from gaining weight too! If I could bring myself to eat healthy I would probably DROP the weight off...I could be a size 8 in a couple of weeks!

yep , me too. i didn't remember it happenning after the first baby, i think i was too busy being tired..but after the second i was sooo ravenous. i put on weight :( and skirts i had worn while pregnant i couldn't get over my thighs:crying: , luckily by the time i was running around after an active toddler it had started dropping off, and then of course i got pregnant again...:D .

i tried to stay away from the biccies more this time:thumbsup: still took 12mths for the weight to start coming off, but my bubs just loves blowing rasperries in my mummy tummy.
