I gave birth a week ago (to a beautiful baby boy!), and luckily didnt have any stiches or tears. I did however have some grazing.
I dont mean to complain over something so relatively small, but it absolutly stings to urinate. Ive been trying ice, and warm salt baths - but does anybody have any other suggestions, or know when i can expect the stinging to stop?
It will take time, try to drink LOTS of water... this will dilute your urine and make it sting less. Make sure you go often too so it doesn't build up and become concentrated.
Your lucky you didn't get stitches...believe me...been there twice...not noice!

oh love, I feel your pain. I was the same with this bub, no tears thankfully, but a bit of grazing. It took probably 3 or 4 weeks to stop stinging, I think. BUT here's some other suggestions to help in the meantime:
* In a pop-top water bottle, get some warm water, and put a couple drops of tea tree oil in. The pop-top makes it easier to squirt onto your, erm, "area" ;) while urinating.
*WARNING TMI AHEAD: this is what I did in the first week before my MW told me about the ^first suggestion :o I got a wad of toilet paper, and pressed it onto myself while urinating. Quite gross, with the wee on the hands, but hey we're mums we get a lot worse stuff than a bit of wee on our hands
Hope you feel better soon. I guess you could put some kind of salve on it, maybe? Ask your care provider about that though. It just popped into my head - I put pawpaw ointment onto bub's red bum, it might soothe this kind of thing too, maybe?

Might be worthwhile checking in with your doctor to make sure you don't have a urine infection! I was also advised to take Ural - makes the urine less acidic and to lean way forward so as to direct the urine stream away from the sore area. But it took at least two weeks for me to feel better!
Good luck,
Kate

Thanks for all the suggestions. ANd it is reassuring to know that it is ment to take a while to heal. I have been amazed at all the things about after pregnancy that I just didnt contemplate. You concentrate so hard on the actual birth that you dont think about the aftermath!

I agree with Kate. I used Ural for about 2 months after DD - I was too scared to quit - just in case!! Pop down to the chemist and get some. It works wonders!
Also Queen's toilet paper thing is good too - somehow the pressure helps..
Good Luck. It will get better. (and you're right - no one ever tells you these things!!)
I was lucky this time with DS4 to have a bidet to fill with body temp water and sit in and pee in....my grazes and tears healled in about 7 days. With DS2, nobody warned me about grazes and wow what a shock it was to wee! so I feel for you, it is horrid isnt it! :hugs:
You can try sitting in the bath also to pee - though this is over complicated sometimes, but it really works wonders....maybe put body temp water in the baby bath, sit in it and wee in it?
All the other suggestions the girls have given also are brilliant....especially keeping your wee diluted. (I would make sure I would drink a tall glass of water for every wee I did).
Hope you heal up real soon!

My mind is just boggling at the visual image I am getting thinking about balancing my bum into a baby bath! Not to mention the looks on my other children's faces (LOL):D
Cheers,
Kate
