View Full Version : Weight loss (mother's) due to breastfeeding
Hi there.
Just wondering if anyone has had problems with losing too much weight due to breastfeeding?
I'm about 3 kilos under my healthy weight, and as a very small person to start with, I'm not looking too flash. I've cut my 12mo's feeds back to 1 per day, and am taking in plenty of calories.
Any advice or similar stories would be appreciated!

I drop weight at the best of times and am feeding a hungry 10 month old so i know where you're coming from! I don't really have any advice other than keep your fats up (drink full cream milk rather than skim etc) and i find taking a multi-vitamin really helps me too. i am just starting to wean ozzy partly because i am just so exhausted all the time, he's still on 3-4 feeds a day. excerise can help too coz it keeps your skin glowing and such. also drink loads of water. all things you probably already do!!
i know so many people who would love this problem but if you're anything like me you just look too skinny and with that and the tired eyes from a baby who has never slept through i occasionally look like a junkie
glad to know i'm not the only one :hugs:

Oh man, I wish :D
Saying that though, I weigh a lot ess and I think breastfeeding has a lot to do with it. I can eat a low ot high calorie foods without thought.
I think all you can do is eat full fat products and eat a lot!

 yeah I wish too!!
I guess I'm not putting on weight, I am maintaining/losing slowly. I have lost the "baby weight" and am back to my pre-pregnancy size. I don't weigh myself though, I can only tell by the clothes I wear and how they fit me.
I guess the 600-800 calories a day I am burning is counter-acted by the 600-800 grams of chocolate I'm eating (ok not quite that much...) (But I can do 9 weetbix for breakfast )

You need to give my son a run for his money-I had to stop him at 10 recently!:D
After said son was born I dropped the weight pretty fast (there was a lot to drop!) and I am sure he hoovered it all out of me. he spent more time on my boob than my other two put together!
Thanks for the replies!
I have just decided to stop the breastfeeding in a week or so. My hubbie thinks I am obsessing about this issue a little, but I worked out my BMI last night and at 15.5 (healthy is 22) I know the feeding is burning me out.
Thanks again.
Go get your thyroid checked. Its quite common to have changes in your thyroid after having a baby!

If I was you I would go the chemist and get yourself a protein formula shake and drink that.
(When I say protein shake I mean the fat building formula not the weight loss formula's, just tell the chemist and they could advise you of a good one).;)
