View Full Version : Question about continuing bottle when able to use sippy cups?
My 6 month old can now drink water from a sippy cup and with a straw. I am wondering if I still keep feeding her formula from a bottle with a teat? (the teats we are using are appropriate for her at the moment) or should I put her milk in a sippy cup?
My DD is almost 10 month's old and still has her formula in her bottles, we only use the sippy cup for water throughout the day.
How did you get your DD to use a straw? Did she just work it out herself? I tried to give DD water in a cup with a straw yesterday and all she did was chew on it .

I'm curious about how u taught her to use a straw also!
LOL I first tried it weeks ago as another baby at mum's group was using one (a bit older than mine) she just chewed it - then I recently tried again and put it in her mouth and held it there - she chewed for a second then sucked - got a bit of a shock at first that something came out but then kept sucking no problem!!
I'd like to say there was some special technique but alas, no.
We stopped using bottles at 6 months. Since then DD has been using sippy cups for water and formula.
My DD is 14 months and still has a bottle for her day milk feed, even though she has been drinking from a cup for ages. She just doesn't seem satisfied from having her milk in a cup!
OT- My DD learned to drink from a straw by squeezing a popper of baby pear juice while the straw was in her mouth, she got a bit and figured out to keep sucking to get some! She was about 8 months.

My DS is 1 and we still give him his milk in his bottles. He only has water in his sippy cups.
I haven't tried him with a straw yet... must do that soon!!

My DD is 13 months old & we are still using a bottle for DD's morning & night bottle :) she is a pro with a straw & has been since she was 8 months old. The best way to teach them is to put a drink they really want in there & show them how to use it. We used apple juice watered down for DD & she caught on really quick as i would be next to her drinking from a straw (although i over exaggerated sucking the cheeks in).
At this age they are very good at mimicing (sp?) mummy & daddy
