I do but at the moment I have only got a point and shoot camera. One day I hope to own a decent camera.

I love taking photos of children. Whenever I get a chance, I always take photos of my friends kids, my nieces and nephew.... and, oh yeah, can't forget mine. :p

When I was a kid I always used to lie under the coffee table and draw under it with pens and crayons. I always felt smug because my parents were right next to me and they never knew I was doing it lol.

Look at the looks on each of theire faces :bee:... Totally off topic and unrelated but I'm too lazy to revive the hijack thread... I never knew David Lee Roth covered California Girls. I don't like Van Halen or David Lee Roth anyway (watching cahnnel v) lol.

Definitely! My cameras part of who I am  At the moment I'm actually doing a personal challenge (well, personal journey really).. Its a Photo of the Day challenge and it's all about taking at least one personal shot a day.. Whether it's a photo of your kids, a family activity your doing, heck, even a shot of a plant if you enjoy doing it.. I'm on day 4 at the moment and I'm having a lot of fun with it, although I didn't think I would have the motivation to do it lol... Theres definitely been some favorites of my DD in the last 4 days.

My only problem has been trying to pick a photo, so mine inevitably has ended up as my "many photos a day" challenge :p

(As a side note, we may have a photography sub-forum soon, it's currently being discussed by the moderators)

I am going through a bit of a stage atm where the thought of taking my kids pictures is even painful. DD being Austistic hates having her photograph taken and DS can't be put anywhere with loose grass leaves or whatever because he is head down trying to eat them. So just haveing a bit of a break from them it would be nice to have willing participants though lol.

Thats what i love about my camera, it makes even bad things look good. It you see a scene and it looks ok you think ill take a photo of that, then when you do it doesnt look good, so i splashed out and bought a better camera to try and make things look like i want them to. But its taking a while

I love my 4gig card, i can take 500 photos of DS before i have to put them onto my passport harddrive.

But it can be a PITA to take the camera out take the cap off, turn it on fiddle with settings ect and then realise you need a different lens so turn it off take lens off put new one on cap the other one, turn on, and by that time the boy has moved, but i enjoy it :)

Leeny oh gosh she's a smart one I'd have to get up pretty early to get one past her in fact I'd have to stay up all night lol. She knows straight away when the camera is around and hands go over her face or she looks at the ground then I hear a chorus of stop looking at me... I don't want my photo taken... stop it... lol. I have very few pictures of her looking at the camera as a result.

Theres so much more to photos then a camera.. It's all about the person whos taking it, and what they want to achieve.. I know of a lot of photographers who achieve just as beautiful photos on a point and shoot as they do on a dslr..Why? Because they know how to use it

PeppaH

Well you know what? When I recently had shots done, I looked at her photos and thought "wow she must be pretty pro" however on the day she had no clue what she was doing  Then I saw the results and thought "well its obviously the camera then" They were nice shots.

However all im saying is that SLR take awesome shots even if your an ameture. It helps if you know how it all works and can work photoshop though.

Leeny
05-01-2010, 00:41
The quality of the photo is better from a dslr yes.. Its such a shame that there are so many hack photographers out there.. It cheapens the industry.. And don't worry, I was just poking fun lol

Lol. I did Pep. I read the first part, killed myself laughing and wished I had have been here last night... and then.. the second part.

On topic, I want to get a decent camera. At the moment the only thing I can take pictures with is the shoddy 2mega pixel camera on my shoddy phone. Its awful. I didn't know laybying a camera was an option, I will look into that. My daughters are too beautiful not to be getting photographed with a decent camera.

And, beautiful, beautiful photos.

yeh i have a DSLR, and while my photos do look better than my old crappy cam photos...they arent looking like Tracey's photos thats for sure!

I'm pretty average on the camera side of things I'm much better at photoshop. I took some horendous pictures when I first got my dslr and before I edit mine they are nothing special. I agree some amazing stuff can be done on point and shoots.

Leeny
05-01-2010, 00:45
Lots of people can take a great photo, but I think it's the treatment of the photo that makes it a beautiful work of art.. Not to say every photo has to be like that.. I adore snapshots and they totally have their place.. I dont take enough!

ManekiNeko
05-01-2010, 00:46
I also think alot of people are disapointed after buying a dslr because they think they take amazing pictures. In a point and shoot you have everything calibrated to be able to print immidiately where as you really have to process the dslr because they are more elemental although you have more control over what you can do with them.

Leeny
05-01-2010, 00:49
Absolutely! A dslr shot in auto is much like a point and shoot.. Well, it IS just a fancy point and shot that prints better quality pictures..You can pump up the contrast, saturation etc so all the photos you take have those applied automatically.. a point and shot already does that fr you.. A dslr when used out of auto so you have complete control of the camera produces very bland images.. It's up to the person taking the photo to make them pop after the fact :)

How do I link some from Fb without linking the whole photo album, anyone know?

right click properties then copy the url address and it won't let anyone see your profile or album.

Go to the photo you want to share. Down the bottom it says Share this photo with others even if they arnt on facebook. And it gives you a link, copy and paste that into here :)

I'm on firefox so I right click, then click "view image".. It'll bring that image up in the window without the facebook page.. Just just the link in the url bar :)

Does that work if yor albums are set to private?

Leeny
05-01-2010, 01:18
Yep, It should do.. Because its not linking to your facebook page.. its linking to the facebook database where your actual photo is loaded if that makes sense?.. If you want to test it.. Just copy it into another window of yours and see where it takes you.. Try deleting the file name on the end of the link and it still shouldn't take you back to a facebook page. It should just be a photo on a blank browser.

ETA: I don't have my albums on private so I can't be 100% sure.. someone with a private album will have to test it out.

No seriously the Alma park Zoo is really stinky the worst bit is thekangaroo enclosure it's like poo city there and my pram got poo all over the wheels yukky... I've been to some pretty cool zoo's as a child Dubbo, One in Malaysia and Taronga Park... I just can't remember anything from them except I got a water bottle with a Gorilla on it at Taronga lol. I'd love to take my kids to Toronga Park I really enjoyed it when I was little although like I said I don't remember anything haha.

Hi Ladies,

Mind if I join you? I recently got a DSLR and went on a 5 week course to learn how to use the manual settings and take better pictures. Was interesting, a learning experience and a lot of fun.

All your photos are gorgeous, I definately need to get photoshop to further enhance my photos. The other thing is my DD just doesnt sit still long enough for me to take a pic lol.....

Do you all find that it takes you a while to get your camera right on a manual setting to take a pic and before you know it your subject matter e.g. your daughter has flown the coup?

i'll try and post a few pics, very amateaur and very much still learning but would love to learn from all you lovely ladies too.

I loved the pics of your DS the first one of the feet was gorgeous... I could look at pictures of babies all day lol. I taught myself off a blog called coffee tea photography if you google it it will come up because I don't know the exact address. It has a heap of free actions but it also shows you how to break down the actions so you can learn more as you go. Alot of photographers make action sets and sell them but I think there are alot of great free actions out there. It also has tutorials aswell it's a really great site. It took me ages to figure out how to load them on to pse on vista but after that the actions were so easy to use.

I just wanted to let you ladies know that we finally have a Photography section of the forum! You can find it here - http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=538

I'll be moving this thread over, but I'll leave a redirect thread here for a week or so, so that everyone can find it if they don't see the new section!

Hi all!!

YAY!! This is GREAT!! :smiliedance:

I've spent all morning (between feeding my little man, play time etc) reading this section! I LOVE it!!

Hope you don't mind if I join in! :o

I love taking photos and last year a friend & I did lessons with a local photographer. We stopped at the end of last year, but I'm still trying to make time to take some photos.

Look forward to chatting to you all

Uploaded a selection into photobucket today-

Any feedback, good or bad is appreciated..
I got my SLR in August so I am still trying to figure it out. My main pics are of my dog, animals and cars (other than the obvious copious amounts of kid pics..lol)

Great thread!

All of you ladies are very talented!

I love taking photos of my little man mostly, but would love to do a photography course. I use a Canon 400D. Sometimes I play around with some editing, and sometimes just leave them as is.

Here are a few of my faves...

(ok, my mum took that one, but I edited it! LOL)
