I had it while pregnant - had a lot to do with not being able to stretch my calves properly. It was excruciating! Made sure I took extra time to stretch as best I could combined with magnesium tabs and calcium too.

My cousin recently had a cortisone injection for the same thing. No-one ever mentioned orthotics, although I do have trouble finding supportive shoes.

Do you sit a lot? Mine was worse then. I hope you find some relief, nothing worse than hobbling around for hours till things loosen up enough to just being painful

Gosh yes! I still get it if I walk around in thongs or flat unsupportive shoes for too many days in a row. I had it really badly a couple of years ago with heel spurs and could barely walk.

Things that helped me apart from the exercises and rolling a frozen water bottle under my feet:

Firstly I taped my heels up with that elastoplast tape. Like a big thick bandaid on a roll. But underneath just on the heel bit I got some sponge type stuff to give it extra cushioning. Then I went to athletes foot and got some decent sneakers with heaps of support. And wore them all the time, even at home. I realised walking around at home barefoot wasn't helping either. Not cheap but cheaper than orthotics.

Then when they got a bit better and I got to the stage of not needing the tape every day and I wanted to wear something other than sneakers I found platforms (I found them sturdier than normal heels) with a heel actually helped too as you walk more on your balls of your feet in heels.

Have they checked there isn't heel spurs as well?

Maybe some good shoes for work would really help (you know the types you can claim on tax ;) because otherwise you wouldn't need them)

Got it here too, and yes it is soooo painful!

Though my phsyio has said hopefully mine is largely due to the elasticity of my muscles due to the hormones from being pregnant, but if it doesn't improve I need to get orthotics too.

But the highlighted above I find one of the most helpful things to do (am doing it right now!!!)

Yes, here as well. I didn't realise it was so common, and I didn't know the name of it!

I have been told by my GP to roll the frozen water bottle, and that really does help alot. And I always walk around the house barefoot, which I really need to change, even thongs makes a difference to bare feet.

It is worse when I stand and walk after sitting or laying down, just excruitiating.

Yes, the frozen water bottle really did help the most. I had 4 mount franklins. One for each foot and 2 more in the freezer for when they melted.:)
