Hi To all the mummies out there.

I am currently 32 weeks on in my first pregnancy and i would love to heear some feedback from mums who may be able to answer my question.

I have a small problem! :o My baby is due at the end of September adn 2 weeks after she is due we are to attend my sister in laws wedding. Problem is we need to fly there adn i'm worried that my little girl will arrive later than her due date.

Does anyone know any theories or old wives tales to help labour come on naturally. If anyone has tried anything and foudn it worked for them or just any stories they've heard would be great.

I would really love to attend the wedding as my partner is in the wedding party and i'd hate for him to miss his sisters wedding.

HELP ME PLEASE

What bad timing for you!

Dont really know much as both of mine were early but I've heard sex can help things along, though I guess that's what started the trouble in the first place:laughing:.

good luck

If you body is not ready, nothing will help it along. If your body is ready there are a few things you can do to 'encourage' the process.

The best are:
Sex - prostoglandins (sp) are in the sperm and they are also whats in induction gel.
Long walks - stay moving with gravity
Stretch & Sweep - Ob does it, if you are ready it can speed things along.

They are the ones Ive seen proven to work though there are many more about spicy food, castor oil (stay away from that, it can be bad for bubs), etc.

Do a google on natural induction methods, heaps come up.

Best of luck.

Yep agree with the sex myth (although it never worked for me, i had to be induced).

I heard that the sperm helps soften the cervix.

If you are really worried maybe speak to your Dr and ask if you go over you due date is it possible to be induced?? The Dr might be able to give you a internal and do a stretch and sweep with generally moves things along.

Good luck :fingerscrossed: you wont miss the wedding

Nipple stimulation, worked for me both times, but my body was ready for it. If your not ready nothing will work. I had both girls at 37 weeks.
DD2 i was booked in for c-section on the 5th, but my friend was leaving for overseas that day. On the 2nd i tried it that night, and went into labour, DD came on the 3rd.
DD1 i was having contractions for weeks, hosp kept saying false labour, tried nipple stimulation and went into labour straight away.
Good luck! Hope she comes early (just a little) for you!

I tried all the old wives tales my friends/family and I could think of from 38 weeks (except the oil, wasn't going anywhere near that) but none worked at all. My DS waited till his due date and was born that day.

I've heard lovemaking helps labour progress.
And nipple stimulation was another. As well as walking.

I think most of that has already been posted:o

I'm used to walking at a very fast pace, and now that i'm almost 31 weeks along i have to walk at the pace of a turtle just to prevent stitches on my sides. So maybe if i walk faster towards 37-38 weeks...

Oh nooo!! is it overseas? If so, i highly doubt they will let you on the plane! Sorry to scare you! But maybe if its just a domestic flight, they may just allow you?

Before My Aunt passed away, she was coming from the states to Australia to give birth to her two twins, she was 7 months along, (she was an Australian citizen who was residing in the states, but wanted to save the $30 000 that she would have to pay at the event of their birth. So she decided to hop back overseas to save the money, smart idea really!)
Anyway, they almost didn't let her on the plane, as she was carrying twins, and she had already had a child previously! She appeared to look full term, and had to prove with doctors certificates that she was only 7 months along before they let her on the plane. Even at 7 months they say its risky.

Fingers crossed for you:fingerscrossed:

Yes, I think you need to check with your dr first as I don't think babies are allowed on planes until at least 6 weeks old and pregnant women aren't allowed to fly internationally after 32-34 weeks (depends on airline) and domestically after 36 weeks.

No it's a domestic flight of only 2 hours - already looked into! Doctor says there is no reason i can't take baby on the plane at such an early stage - especially if i'm breastfeeding. That was the first thing i asked.

Thanks for all your tips girls! Really Appreicate it!

I had several sessions of accupunture leading up to my due date which was supposed to help bring on labour. My waters broke on my due date (Fri) and I delivered Tom on the Sunday, so I believe the accupunture helped. The accupuncturist was recommended to me by one of the midwives I saw throughout my pregnancy, so you could always ask the doctor/midwife you're seeing for a recommendation.

We'd also had sex the morning my waters broke so it's always worth a try. If nothing else it will make for a much happier husband leading up to the "dry spell" over the next couple of months.

I really believe in the power of the mind so try to visualise the birth on the day you want to have bub. Best of luck. I hope you make it to the wedding.

I can recommend a great Acupuncturist who works with pregnant women to get their bodies ready for labour and to also bring them on (once they reach a certain stage).

PM if you would like his details.

I tried all the old wives tales under the sun to bring on labour including the castor oil twice:eek: I don't recommend that one.

And nothing worked at all.

I've heard seriously tweaking your nipples can get the hormones going to bring on labour. Acupuncture worked for a friend - she swears by it!

cheers

I've heard that drinking that Raspberry Leaf Tea from about 34 weeks (about 4 cups a day) ripens your cervix and uterus and is a pretty safe bet. That plus having sex and walking up and down the stairs (if your bump's not too large).

I drank the tea religiously and went into labour 2 days past my due date, however my friend also stuck to it and she went 4 days early.

I had a waxing at the beauticians and she told me that it could bring on labour - apparently it had worked for her friend - I was 35 weeks with twins - I laughed this off !! I wasnt laughing though whenI started with contractions the next day !! So there may be something in this !!

I had a bikini wax 2 days before I went into labour and I also had a pedicure & manicure that morning as well. Apparently pedicures can work in the same way as accupunture or reflexoloy in hitting the right spots. DD was 10 days early.

I went for a very exhausting 4 hour walk on a hot day (missed the bus actually!) at 38wks pregnant, and went into labour the next day.

I had a bikini wax the day before I went into labour (but I had already started pretty strong, regular contractions a few days before) and sex definitely worked the morning I went into labour!

I also swear by acupuncture - I rubbed points to bring on labour as soon as the contractions were starting up and that sped things along!!! My boy was a week early!!!

Hope it all goes well for you!! :)
