Same as for male circumcision - unnecessary, ill-informed, ********, painful; basically I see any form of genital mutilation as child abuse.

for females, it is much worse than for males! no comparison really. Basically the aim is to make sex torture! I have just heard recently that it is actually happening in Australia:eek:

Repulsive. Unnecessary. ********. Pointless. Degrading. Mutilation.

I agree - much worse than it is for boys. I find the whole concept horrible and quite bizarre.

I used to live in a part of the world where they routinely did girls without anaesthetic.......

(Mind you, they circumcised the boys w/o anaesthetic too... I doubt they enjoyed that much either).

It takes a variety of forms.

Mostly, though, it's just there to prevent women from enjoying sex.

Oh, and I don't need to actually explain my feelings on the subject, do I?

I feel exactly the same about male circumcision, and for the same reasons.

I've heard of it in the poorer African countries and I think it's appalling and ******** but for some reason it offends both me and DP more than male circumcision.

An estimated 135 million of the world's girls and women have undergone genital mutilation, and two million girls a year are at risk of mutilation - approximately 6,000 per day. from Amnesty International website on female mutilation.

It's ******** & totally unnecessary.

Absolutely agree...and why would a 'newbie' have this as a first thread?

Well, it does throw into sharp relief the acceptance that male genital mutilation has in our society...

kymmy

Mmmm, not sure what the purpose of this thread is at this point, hopefully the OP will be back to enlighten us, but it seems to be cruising along relatively well atm (maybe because everyone is in agreement on this topic, lol)

Sadly female cirumcision is still performed all over the world, in its varying degrees, even in Australia (but then again so is male circumcision  ) in fact there are doctors who will perform it here for insistant families to save the young girl the trauma of being held down and taken to with a rusty razor by her mother and other trusted female relatives.

Anyway, still not sure what to do about this one.......
*wanders off to find a wise supermod to see what they think*

I have reopened this briefly to point out that FGM (female genital mutilation) is in fact illegal in Australia - it is a crime that carries a hefty jail sentence.
