Well, after what felts like the world's longest pregnancy, Connor made his way into the world on Thursday July 20th at 5.28pm 11 days overdue.
The day before i was booked in to get induced, i woke up at 4.30am to both my show and waters breaking at the same time. I stood in the bathroom laughing as more gushed out, and trying to call out to my hubby that we should head to the hospital. When we got there nothing really much happened as there were no contractions as such, so they sent me home.
Once i got home, prelabour started - i got contractions every 20 or so minutes which was more like period pain. At about 3pm they started getting more regular and closer together. At 11pm, they were approx about 5 minutes apart and so we headed for the hospital. When we arrived, the did an internal and said i was 2cm (yay!!) but said that there was no point me staying there as i wasn't in established labour (but it bloody felt like it) and so they gave me two pandine forte and two sleeping tablets and tried to organise to get me into the ante-natal ward. A few hours passed with my heavy contractions getting worse and worse, so they kept me in the exam room, proped up on a bed with the monitors on. As baby was positier, this made the contracts extremly painful!! They wouyld not let me walk around, shower or bath. The pain killers had kinda knocked me out a bit, so this stage is all kinda blurry, but next thing i know it is 7am on thursday and they are checking my progress - only 5cm!! That means in 8 hours of contractions2 mins apart, i only had an extra 3 cm. This is where i asked for an epi. I managed to finally get into a birthing suite at about 8 am - so 10 hours after i got there!! Got into the suite and got handed what Dh calls my 'friend' - the gas. The middie cranked it up full and i was off my nutter. The contractions still hurt (as i still had to remain on the bed to be monitored) but i didn't care. It wasn't until 10am that i got my epi - 3 hours later. But my god what a difference it made!!!! I could actually string a sentence together and talk to DH. He was also extremly relieved to see how much better i was coping.
At 12pm they checked me again and i was 9 and three quaters dialated!! yay!! So they turned down the epi and said that i could start pushing in about an hour. I didn't have the pushy type contractions so i was trying to push him with each normal contraction. This kept going for three hours. So then the middies said - hmmm, wonder why he hasn't come out, maybe we should get a dr'.
Dr came in and discovered that he was tyrying to come out the wrong way and was stuck on the cervix and that an emergancey c section was needed. So they started running me through the corridors to the theater to get him out. When we got there they tried to top up my epi but it didn't work, i still had feeling, so the dr decided it was best to put me under a general. I demanded to see Dh and had a cry, and made sure the midwives took photos for us.
Next thing i know i woke up in this room with nurses and that everywhere with me yelling out for tim and my baby. So they wheeled me in to the maternity ward and there stood Dh with my baby boy.
Even thinking now about it i still get teary at the fact that i didn't get to see my man enter the world, and that i didn't get to share the moment with my Dh. Apparently he cried and just looked at him for ages. I was so drugged out when i first saw Connor i just stared. No crying, no nothing. Looking back, if i had demanded that i wanted to walk around and shower, this may not have happened - it just makes me so angry that they left me in established labour for 18 hours, then let me push for three hours before getting a dr to work out what was happening.
But, in the end we got our baby out safely and he is so beautiful and i love him to death. He was 7 pound 8, and 49.5cm long. Sorry it was so long, but so was the ordeal (37 hours from when waters broke), but im off to stare at my baby boy! :smiliedance:
