Hi there I know it's quite a common issue but I jar a terrible catnapper!! I leave her to self settle all the time and she foes down without a fuss but always wakes after 39-40 mins!! I've tried resettling after that time and ice also tried the save our sleep method of keeping her up until her next sleep she is 31/2 months old any tips???
my ds was a cat napper and thats just the way he was he is 18months now and is much better... If shes happy when she wakes and is content then just leave it. But if she clearly needs more sleep, try to resettle her or go for a walk in the pram. Make sure the room is dark and that you have a good routine.... And just do lots of research there are many ways to help babys sleep better you just need to find whats best for you :).
Also it can take up to 14 days to change her bad waking habits.. Good luck

My DS was a catnapper until he reached about 5-6 months, just make sure she has a full tummy, clean nappy, wrapped up snug....not much else I can suggest, I know how frustrating it can be!

She's always preety grumpy when she wakes up I know she needs more sleep she just can't get past that first sleep cycle during the day (she sleeps through the night) I've got block our blinds tried white noise/dummy/no dummy everything I just can't seem to crack it :(
My 4 month old was like that, 40 - 50 tops. But lately he has started to sleep 1 1/2 hours, but not every sleep. Some sleeps are still 50 min, I try to resettle, but it fails more often than not!
I stopped wrapping at about that age and my ds stopped sleeping longer than 45 minutes in a row during the day. I started wrapping again in sheer desperation a few weeks later and bang he went straight back to having longer daytime naps. A typical sleep cycle for bubs of this age is 45 minutes, so your bub is just waking after 1 cycle. It may not be possible to stop this easily, but wrapping could help if you aren't already doing it. Bear in mind that you need big wraps for bubs of this age - at least 1m square - even as big as a flat cot sheet works well. They move more and wriggle out of little or flexible wraps.

Hi mim1 yes I do wrap did you give your bubs a dummy? She seems to want to suck all the time!! So don't know whether wrapping bugs her cuz nothing to suck on
My ds was wrapped til 11 months and still has a dummy at nearly 3. He loved to be wrapped very firmly and he loved having that dummy to suck on.

Hmm well we will keep trying my oldest was a catnapper and we used tizzies halls save our sleep book it took three days and he started having two two hour naps and another late afternoon nap but doesn't seem to work for bubs number two every babys different i guess I just know she's so much happier when she gets a good sleep!! :/
Tizze Hall didn't work for us, but the no cry nap solution was some help., DS was the WORST catnapper. Eventually he just outgrew it, despite me trying everything under the sun to fix it. Happened around 5 months. :yelclap:

HI
Unfortunately, it looks like you have a catnapper!
There are 4 kinds of day sleepers and The Catnapper is one of them.
DS was a catnapper, up until 5 months, then he occasionally slept for 1.5 hours during the day but not all the time.
He's now just turned 6 months, and generally does more 1.5 hour sleeps than 40 mins but they do still creep in there.
As you know babies sleep cycles are 40 mins, and if they are just having that during each nap, it's fine as they are still having a good sleep
Not good for us mum's I know, but you might just have to live with it for a while I'm afraid.
They do also say you shouldn't try and change a catnapper. It's a lot of hard work to try and not always worth it.

Hi and I feel for you poor luv. My DS 7 months is the same but I am lucky some days he does sleep better, the days he doesn't I just have to lay in his room rocking the cot ( which we put wheels on) and try to get him to over 1 hour, he is happy when he gets up though. I had to go back to wrapping as well as sleeping bags were not working. I hope things get better for you and just research and try what works for you. Maybe go see a child youth health nurse in your state as we have done that and they are great i.e CYHS in Adelaide or Tressilian in NSW or who ever you have where you live!

Hi! I have 4.5 month baby. Never sleeps past 45 mins during the day. If we go to the shops he sleeps for 3 hours in his pram!! We have tried everything at home. The only time he sleeps past 45 mins is on the couch with me! Not ideal but I figure happy baby happy mum happy house! He is great at night so cant complain! would be interseted to hear of ant success stories!
Don't stress about "what books say". Follow you baby's lead. If that is your baby's routine, then work around it. Things will change and evolve as your baby gets older. Nothing stays the same for long when you have a bub! My first boy used to have 15 minute cat naps a few times each day and then sleep in 2 hour blocks thorughout the night. Yes it was tiring, but in the end he started having one hour sleeps 3 times a day, and now 1t 23 months hae has one two and a half hour sleep each afternoon. Just roll with the punches - each baby is different.
