Thursday the 18th of May (39 Weeks, 5 Days)
Today i had my weekly hospital check up with the midwives and another ultrasound as my fundal height was measuring the same for 2 weeks in a row so they just wanted to check it out. Had the ultrasound and they told me that there was not much fluid around bub and that i had to go down to delivery suite to be monitored for a while so me and chris went down there to be told that the dr's weren't happy with the amount of fluid that was in there and that i would be induced the next day in the afternoon (the 19th of may) so they wanted me to stay (they told me they wanted to induce me because when there isnt alot of fluid in there the placenta starts to break down) . i asked could i go home to pick up my bags and they said ok but to hurry back as i had to be on the monitor all night before they started to induce me. so me and chris came home (all i was worried about was shaving my legs lol) and we rang a few people just to let them know what was happening. when i was done shaving my legs and got a few last things packed in my bag we headed back to the hospital when the dr came up to me and told me they had a free spot tonight and i was going to get induced now!!! boy was that a slap in the face! so we got taken to delivery room number 2 and my waters were broken at 10:00pm (that wasnt very fun by the way!) and i started getting a few contractions but nothing painful or serious, then the drip was inserted (syntocin)(sp?) at 11:00pm and my contractions started coming regular and pretty painful. at this point gas was my best friend and no one was coming between us! (not without a fight anyways). my contractions started to get more intense, about 2 minutes apart and lasting for what seemed forever so the midwife offered me a shot of pethadine so i gladly accepted with open arms lol. the pethadine didnt really do anything for me except make me sleepy between contractions, so when a contraction started i just sucked the hell out of the gas. anyways the contractions were starting to get really bad and i felt like i was starting to lose the plot so i asked for an epidural (i was so tired aswell and i needed to save my energy for pushing) so mr epi man came in and was talking to me about the pro's and con's and all i kept thinking was "blah blah blah just put it in!!!" so after he finished having a rave he put it in. talk about instant relief!!! the worst part about the epidural was having to stay still through the contractions!! i just leaned on chris and sucked the hell out of the gas. a while later i could start to feel contractions again on the left side of my belly and the midwife explained to me that sometimes theres a pocket that the epidual doesnt get too. i kept getting the most hugest urge to go to the loo so when i got a contraction i was doing little pushes. about an hour later the epidural had completely wore off and i could feel everything again and i had to push really bad so the midwife checked me out and i was 10cm's dialated, so now the real pushing began! to me it felt like i was doing the biggest poo of a lifetime! (sorry TMI). after an hour of pushing i felt even more exhausted and i asked if the vacuume could be used so they organised that and then i started pushing again and at 10:30am on Friday the 19th of may Maddison Jade came into the world with a full set of screaming lungs!!! she only cried for about 2 minutes then while daddy was holding her she was so quiet and just looked around the room. i ended up with a 2nd degree perineal tear, i got a few internal stitches and 5 stitches on the outside. Maddison weighed 4060 grams (8lbs 9oz), 53 cms long and her head circumference was 36cm's. i ended up going home on monday the 22nd of may, Maddison weighed 3730 grams when we left. She is thriving well and i love being a mum. thanks for reading my birth story!
