I did it all the time.
Push it on and hold the back up, easy and simple.
I don't think I would try it with a 3 wheeler though no way that front wheel would be steady.
Not a chance . I'm so uncoordinated and our pram is huge. But once he started walking at 12 months we did away with the pram so it's not really an issue anymore, I can't remember the last time it came to the shops with us.

 ours has been sitting outside for 4 days in the rain. I never use it either anymore. The only time DD likes it is when we take her to the park with the dog walking next to the pram :D She hates being strapped down

taken a pram on an escalator?
Did you read the 4 wheeler vs 3 wheeler thread?
I think it is one of the most stupid things that people can do. Even if there is no ramp escalators, there are plenty of lifts (legal requirement) so people would only do it if they are being lazy!

yep sometimes
I did ONCE about 14 years ago.
I wanted to go to a toy shop that the only the public could get there was on one. I got top and the pram got stuck, tip over, baby was strapped in but hanging out. The man behind me didn't see so he pushed me over the pram and he fall over me, two more people fall over us while was getting my DD out. Back then they didn't have the big stop button.
please don't take the risk.

actually last week at my major local shopping centre both lifts were out of order, no ramps what so ever in the place & we were all instructed to take the escalators...
No.
I wanted to once as my partner was carrying our son, so I thought I'd just take the empty pram up. But my partner said "no" as that's what the sign said.

My DD is not in her pram much these days and never at the shops anyway.
Lucky for me, when she was oin the pram, the shops that I go to the most have a travelator. But, I have seen so many people push in front of prams in the lifts so I understand why people get frustrated and don't bother, especially when a lift takes 10 mins to arrive.

Well it is illegal for the place you were to do this.
While I haven't done it, is it that dangerous?
Wouldn't you just stand on the step above and hold it firmly on the step below?
I don't know - my pram faces me. Maybe that makes it seem safer.
Feel free to shout at me :D. I just can't see it being terribly dangerous if you had both hands free, and the baby strapped in.
Yes I do it all the time. Provided your baby is properly strapped in and you stand behind the pram holding it firmly it is not an issue. When its only stairs or escalators the escalators are the only option. I don't see it as being stupid.
Scuse my ignorance...but why is it so bad/illegal???
I see it ALL THE TIME at our major shopping centre. Parents usually put the front wheels or back wheels on one step and then hold the other end of the pram...

I did it for AGES (months) and didn't realise i wasn't allowed - I was a bit dumb and never saw the sign on the thing and it wasn't until I was with a friend and she told me that I realised.
And in my local shopping centre I dont, because I know where all the lifts are, or the travelators.
But I do it sometimes when I can't find an alternative way up or down.

Meh no one is going to fine you for it.
The reason they have made it a "illegal" thing is so IF something happens you can't sue the shopping centre. Same as the "wet floor" signs etc.

Don't worry now I can laugh at myself for been so silly but at the time it was not a good look  out by myself shopping with five kidlets!

But why are so many members saying that its a terrible thing to do/they have never will do it etc???

Hold a stroller so it is perched on 2 wheels on a moving step with a wiggling child in. What if someone bumps you, you loose your grip, the wheel gets caught, you child decides to throw themselves to the side suddenly, a wheel breaks from the stress of being on 2 wheels......anything can happen and then what happens? best case scenario is that your child in the pram rolls down the moving staircase without flipping over onto the spiky edge of the escalators or over the edge of the rails.

With DD I did it hundreds of times probably without incident.
I don't now simply because I am never around escalators.

I have twice as I was shopping and the lift had broken down.
Yep I have quite easily. Its easier going up than down. If I have someone with me, pram goes down empty and carrying DD.

I have to admit, I've only done it about twice with DS and it did feel dangerous. But 10 years ago I would have done it daily with DD and never thought twice about it... is this the wisdom that comes with age?

Have to admit I've done it so many times Ive lost count..when you have a twin pram and there is no ramp or the lift is so small it wont fit the pram in, how else am I supposed to get into the shopping centre?? not all places cater for twin prams and cause I have twins, I cant ask one to walk when they were not walking etc......Ive never had a problem with them thank goodness... :)
yea DP and i take DD up the escalators all the time, most of the time the ramps/elevators are so far away that its easier. you just have to be careful and make sure you hold on tight.

Yep I did i all the time with both my kids and will again with this one, I would've done it literally hundreds of times. I have layback stroller which is not heavy, not big and is stable. I've never had an accident in my many years doing it. So much easier than finding, and then waiting for a lift. I thought everyone did it ???
I have done it when the pram was empty, I don't think I'd do it with DS in the pram though. I don't think it's a terrible thing to do or anything, but one time I saw a lady lose grip of her pram on the escalator and Bub came out and bounced and everything.:crying: Everyone was fine of course :) but I can't seem to get it out of my mind when I'm at the shops.

 Yes that is what it is, we are old now.
I do notice though so many more places are prem and wheelchair friendly as they should be.
I've done it a few times...never on my own though. I either carry the baby and the person I'm with takes the pram down empty or they go first and hold the front of the pram while i hold the back, or vice versa.
I never do it with the toddler seat on or when I'm on my own.
Our local shopping centre has the trolley escalators so i normally use those but if i'm at the other end of the shopping centre and i'm in a rush i do use the regular one's :o I prefer not too though as they make me nervous even without a pram!
I always do it this way. I hold the back up.
I don't ever go backwards it doesn't feel right.
I HATE pushing the pram so dp always does.

i don't go down, but i do go up. don't feel right doing it down the escalator.
Yeah, when someone was holding DD and it was empty we have quite a few times.

I have never done that.
NonnyMouse
28-12-2009, 23:44
All the time! Back when I had DD there were no ramps and no travelators, so it was either use the stairs where I had to try and lug it down all the bumps myself (or rely on kindly strangers to help) or the escalator where I could hold it steady at the right angle. 9 times out of 10 though I'd have DX with me, so one of us would hold DD and the other would weild the pram.

Used to do it all the time with DD1 wouldn't do it now though (even though shopping centres still aren't really baby friendly).

Nope, too dangerous IMO. I take the lift or the ramp.
