View Full Version : Is this silent reflux?

My DS is 2 wks old and he's getting more and more unsettled - I'm new to this section but a lot of what I'm reading is ringing bells. This is what's going on:

DS feeds well - exclusively BFing. Feeds on one side, usually does a poo, takes the other side and conks out.

He burps a fair bit after a feed - not heaps but a good amount.

He settles after a feed - he usually conks out off the boob. I burp him as much as I can and wait till he's in a deep sleep then put him in the bassinet (which i have the head elevated). He transfers into the bassinet fine usually, but after about 5 - 20 mins, I can hear him kind of gulping as though gas is kind of bubbling up into the back of his throat. This makes him cry and writhe around and he won't settle till i pick him up and rock him back to sleep. But then he'll sleep a bit, then I hear the bubbles again, then he wakes up crying etc etc. Last night he didn't settle from the 9pm feed until almost 2am. I have him asleep in the rocker at the moment but I'm not sure how good that is for him (but at least he's sleeping).

The crazy thing is that it doesn't seem to matter how much i burp him, it's like as soon as he's lying down these bubbles just appear from nowhere. Even if its been ages since his feed. Even now I can hear him gulping and swallowing and he hasn't fed since about 9:30. But it seems if he's in the rocker it doesn't bother him so much - presumably because he's tilted up more.

Sometimes when being burped after a feed he does a violent chuck, sometimes with milk coming out his nose.

Anyway, it's so late and my brain is fuzzy. Please if anyone has had experience with silent reflux can you let me know what it was like for your little one and if it might be what's going on here? TIA. (sorry for long post).
