Earlier tonight I posted a thread about my ds having a lump near his penis, and one of his testicles missing. Well, we just got back from the doc, and it looks like my little boy has a hernia :crying: . The doc managed to get the testicle back down to where it's supposed to be, but a large squishy lump remained, which he said looks like a hernia, and gave us a referal to go and see a paediatric surgeon. I burst into tears, that isnt what I expected to hear...:crying:

:hugs: to you
my little man has had probs down there too - not a hernia though
one thing to remember is that hernias in babies are not that uncommon - in fact, on the day my bub was in hospital having his bits repaired - there were 2 babies waiting for hernia ops as well
i'm sure it will all be fine:)

Thanks guys... I know other families have gone through tough times too, but you never expect these things to happen to you. Your little baby comes out all pink and healthy, then you spend every minute worrying about them... Sorry, very emotional :gloomy: :crying:

oh honey ... massive hugs to you ...

did the DR say how it could have happened?? do you have any other details?

I'm sending big hugs your way - it is so scary when they get sick/ injured- you just want it fixed... NOW!!! ... I hope that all the info the pediatrician can give you is positive.. and that everything goes smoothly ..

((hugs))

Doc said it's caused by the tube where the testicle descends from the abdomin not closing...

I remember my cousin having that when he was only about a month or 2 old.
They sorted it out for him.. and he never had any probs with it again.
I think it's more traumatic for the parents than the baby at that age.
I'm sure it is a shock to you.

Big hugs to you and your little boy :hugs: I know how scary it is when you are told you little baby needs surgery. Hopefully the wait isn't too long as I think this is the worst part.

Oh, sweetie, I'm so sorry that you got news you didn't want to hear.

The good thing is, this is a really common problem among little boy babies - and the surgery to repair them is really straightforward, quick and done on an outpatient basis - they don't keep them in overnight thesedays, its just done in the morning and the baby is sent home with you that afternoon. I can't imagine how scarey it must be to be told that your baby has to have surgery, but in so far as health problems go - if Mitchell HAD to have one, this is a good one to get, with an easy and quick solution

Big hugs :hugs: , I'm sure you and your little man will be just fine. Just remember to ask LOTS of questions of the paed and the surgeon, try to put your mind at rest as much as you can, and take it easy.

BTW: Just found this (http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/system/surgical/hernia.html) article by kids health.org on hernias. Explains them pretty well. HTH

:hugs: hi

my little man had this also. he had a screaming fit and my hubbie spotted a lump in his groin just like you found and it was a hernia (also had undescended testicle which we knew about). a few days later they operated and i was so scared i hadnt slept properly for those days before. the hospital staff were great though and the anaesthetist came and explained everything, hopefully they will do the same with you guys. he had the op about 2pm and he came back to us verrrry upset and verrry hungry around an hour or so later. he slept for an hour, had some milk, slept for another couple of hours and then we were let home. he had a small cut around 2cms just above his belly button, and two teenyweeny cuts to either side. by the time we got out to the car park he was fine, smiling, blowing raspberries and giggling. when we got home we took a full bottle, then he went to sleep in our room, from 9pm-7am. the next day was amazing, i can honestly say that he was as right as rain. he wasn't sore, wasn't whingey, i didn't even need to give him panadol. he drank nearly as much as normal too.

the thing i was most bothered about was the anaesthetic, but she told me they use such a light amount it doesn't affect them too much afterwards. of course i would have quite happily had it done for him, the thought of things going wrong with your perfect little wriggly baby is awful but i'm sure the staff at the hospital will all have done it many times before and they take such good care of the littlies.

i know you will, but i will say it anyway - try not to worry too much. i am amazed by how much bouncebackability babies have. lots of hugs to you both xxx

Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou!!!!!

I feel heaps better after reading your posts. We go to see the paediatric surgeon at the Royal Children's on Tuesday (Seems like AGES away  ), so :fingerscrossed: that it is as straight forward as you all say.

Thanks again xoxoxoxoxox:hugs:
