It's member of the aspirin family which means it can thin the blood. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, so it can alter the lining of the stomach.

That said, my DS can't stomach Panadol so Nurofen is the only way. We don't use it very often but it has been great when we've needed it.
We found Nurofen to be much better for those extreme teething moments because it helps reduce the swelling of the gums. Bub needs to have some food/liquid in their stomache first though.

True, it can work when Parracetemol doesn't but where are the long-term studies on Ibuprofen (Nurofen) and children? It hasn't been around long enough and, like adults, there are many ppl for whom Ibuprofen can harm (children with heart mumurs, VSD's asthmatics, etc). Some say it damages stomach lining.

DD was given Nurofen when she was just over 6 months old. She had a high temperature...and panadol did nothing to ease it. We went to the hospital (her temp was 40!) and they gave her nurofen. It eased off, we went home...and I gave her a little more the next day. It worked a charm.
You're not supposed to use it for bubs under 6 months...but if the hospital is giving it to my DD, then I don't think there's anything too wrong with it.
I have been told not to give DD1 nurofen as she is an asthmatic. Apparently it can cause an asthma attack.
