Is there such a thing as controlled whinging? I have used CC on my ds in the past because he responds well to it and is generally asleep before i get to the 5 minute mark. At the moment however he is waking during the night but not crying. Instead he is whinging on and off for an hour. Can CC work in these circumstances? I'm not sure what to try.

Hi. I haven't had much luck with controlled whinging. Controlled crying worked really well, but ds is whinging a lot at the moment, probably because he's teething. (His Dad is moping around the house today whinging too.... maybe it's just hereditory!)

Anyway, I have no solutions but have found the endless whinging gets a little irritating - so I know how you feel.

Hey guess what, Max is one day older than Spencer! He was born at 2.35am on the 14th of Jan.

Isn't it interesting getting to know their personality. Sometimes I wonder how much of it is Capricorn behaviour or genetic behaviour or just his own wierd and wonderful ways.

Max is quite shy with strangers and looks rather serious when other people are around, however when it's just us at home he's a real clown - oh and a chatterbox. He is quite happy singing away to himself all day.

How about Spencer?

I don't know whether it's part of the Capricorn thing but since day 1, people have always remarked that Spencer looks like a wise old man. He's got heaps of lines on his forehead from serious baby pondering. We keep saying to him 'what are you worrying about - life doesn't get any easier than this'. Mind you, the wise old man remarks may be due to the fact he has no hair and no teeth!

Spencer isn't shy with people - in fact he's incorrigible flirt! He's very determined when he wants something - how about Max?

Which hospital/birthing centre did you have Max at? We were at St V's Private.

I was just over the road at Freemasons. My ob delivered at Freemasons and St V's.

It's funny you say that, many people say that Max looks like he's 'been here before' and that he is a wise soul. He is definately a ponderer.

It would be great to meet Spencer. You're welcome to come along to the Melbourne mums get together at Chadstone on the 24th if you like, or do you work?

my son is 5 months old and we always use controlled whinging. I do not go back in if the crying is up and down or if it is an angry cry. I do go in if he is really upset. It's funny though because just when you are about to go in because you cant stand it anymore is when they go to sleep.

My daughter's 18 months old and is a great whinger. I find going outside or putting ear-plugs in and reading a book for 10 minutes whilst she's in her playpen for some time of her own works. She's usually so grateful when I pick her up and pay attention to her agian that the whingeing has stopped.

Doesn't help much in the middle of the night though sorry...

Spencer is slowly getting better at night and there has been less whinging over the past couple of nights. I'm still getting up to feed twice a night tho' - 12 midnight and 3am. I'd love to drop one of them.
