View Full Version : 12 month needles = fever & vomiting?

DS is 1 on Wednesday and is booked for his 12 month injections next Monday.

Within my Mothers Group all the older babies (who have recently had their needles) have had vomiting and fever afterwards (within a 5 day period).

I am wondering if anybody else's children have had a similar reaction?

DS never really reacts to the immunisations at all but I am a little worried this time as I dont want a sick baby.

Also I have been told that these needles go in the arms instead of the legs?? Is this true and does anybody know why they do it that way?

:o

Thanks!

Hiya

My DS was ok when he had his 12month shots. He had them in his arms ( I don't know why either, but he handled it well. Bit grisly - but nothing more)

Brion didn't have any reaction to his shots. I was told that if any reaction occurred it would be between 5-12 days AFTER the needles...

Hello
DS was sick the next day. A fever and a small rash. It lasted only two days and it didnt come back.

We were reassured that it was completely normal, and as terrible as i felt for him at the time, he got over it quicky and was back to his usual happy self!

K just had his 12mth shots today and they were put in his legs..He didn't get the MMR though, so I'm hoping he won't get sick :fingerscrossed:

Neither of my boys had any worries with their needles. But a friend of mine her little girl had a similar reaction after her 12mnth needles.
Though they weren't sure if it were from the needle or that her DH held her and she just wanted mummy and got very upset.

Well im the odd one out :p
Boof had all his in his arms at 12mths !
I would hope that the mothers in your group have reported their childrens reactions just so they can note it may have been a bad batch.
Anywhos the MMR is usually the one that has the reaction so to speak & often because they use egg as part of its makeup it usually only takes a short period of time for this to happen. The reaction that may happen 7-10 days afterwards is that your lo may come out in a rash as its the measles virus hitting their system. Its not contagious & will only take a short period to dissappear with no major side effects besides a grumpy bub.
Boof hasnt had any major dramas with any of his vax's so far bar the usual grumpiness, slight fever & sore legs. His 12mth vax's went all to plan with no dramas even though i too was a little anxious about the MMR but all was fine.
Every child reacts differently & if your going to a different doctor there is a good chance you wont get the same batch as those in your mothers group.
Good luck !

Mine never had any reactions to the 12mth ones, they were back to "normal" within 3mins of the needle and never had any side effects.

The 12mth ones went in my kids legs, they haven't had anything in their arm.

Sam is due for his 12 month shots in a couple of weeks. We've been scheduled for 3 shots. Doctor says one in each leg and his arm. I think the shots are for MMR, Meningococcal, and a HiB booster. I'll find out on the 10th! I'm SOOO not looking forward to it. Think I'm more scared than Sam is

My older DD has had her 12 month injections & I think she got 2 in arms and the other in the leg. Apart from a quick cry when she had them, she got no fever or rash or anything untoward afterwards..........she did have a lump in her leg for several weeks from the Meninococcal (I think?) but it wasn't painful and didn't seem to bother her at all......completely gone now.
