Hi all - I have been on Vitex for two months now, and ever since the second week of taking it, I have had the most terrible skin. I came off the pill in March and had a bit of up and down with my skin, but it seemed to settle down, then I went on the Vitex and bam, horrible nasty pimples all over the place, like I haven't had since I was a teenager. I can't help but think that they are connected. Has anyone else had this happen?

TTC, wrinkles AND pimples??? That wasn't in the brochure!!!

Eek! I have actually heard from people that it helped to clear up their skin.....I guess its a very individual thing?

I've only been taking it for a week, but I think mine is clearing up - fingers crossed :fingerscrossed:

I didn't have that problem with vitex, but I found it really messed my cycle around. It's funny but as soon as it was out of my system I fell pregnant. But I guess it's like anything, somethings help somethings don't.

Ditto!! (and that was after about 1.5 years of TTC)

As far as I know, Vitex stimulates the pituatory gland to make ovulation more regular.......so not sure if pituatory glands have anything to do with causing excess oil/pimples etc?

Good luck TTC :)

I have PCOS and have problems with acne, not huge but enough to make me unhappy and feel down over it.

I went to the GPs and they prescribed me a gel called Eryacne which treats the bacteria, although on the face it can be very drying, I was only using it once a day instead of the twice reccomended because it was drying out my face a bit much. I have only been usign it 3 weeks and think I am starting to see an improvement (Dr said 4 weeks i should start to see something). If you are TTC then steer clear of hormonal remedies as you dont really want to muck them up.

I went to my naturopath/nutritionist and he gave me some homoeopathic tablets that you stick under your tounge and let disolve, they are called Cutis Compositum and I have them 3 times a day after each meal. The bottle says they are for Mild to Moderate Acne, Eczema, Dermititis and Dry Skin. He said it is fine to still use the gel so I am.

It might pay to speak to your GP or see a good naturopath for advice.

Hey KK

I'm not sure about the vitex but I'm with you on the zits - no one told me I'd be battlling them at 30!

It may be more that you went of the pill rather than the vitex - I went of the pill in January, and got a few pimples until April, when I really broke out. The good news it its sort of easing a little bit now. I was on Yasmin, which helps with acne - though I never really had it - So the theory is I'm sort of rebounding. From a few chats on bubhub, its sounds like around 6 months on is the time they start to ease :fingerscrossed: its sooner for you.

Well that is why my skin has become soooo oily for no reason!!! Luckily I am preg now so do not need to take it anymore!

I have been on a few different brands of Vitex - some have been good for my skin, where others haven't been quite so kind. Try a different brand when its time to re-stock. I have found Natures Fusion to be the best so far.

Thanks all - some helpful suggestions there.

Bolli - I was also on Yasmin. Interesting that your breakouts occured several months after coming off the pill which is the same as me. I thought it should have sorted itself out by now, but maybe I just have to wait.

Patience not a virtue, and this is just adding to the TTC frustrations!
