View Full Version : Trouble with teats, which ones to use???
Since having to go to FF I am having trouble with finding the right teats to use on DS2's bottle. I have spent that much money on different teats and bottles but find that either the air wont go back into the bottle or he can't get a seal around the teat. With the nuk teats I found that even though there is the extra hole for the air to go back into the bottle it didn't work and he wasn't getting any milk out of the bottle.
Does anyone have any suggestions. You name the teat and I probably have it here.
I didn't have any of these problems with my other children.
Hi! We had the exact same problems with my DD only 7 weeks ago:rolleyes:
We found that she couldn't get anything out of the nuk teats either!! The teats that we found the best for Rhianna are the avent ones- at first we couldn't get it right, but after a little perserverance its all good:thumbsup:
If your using avent I would suggest making sure bubs mouth is attached much like on the breast, as this prevents too much air being sucked in... if you can see bubbles in the milk while they're drinking you've got it right:yes:
It did take a bit of work to get it right (much like breastfeeding- its all about attachment!!) hope I've helped a little :o

ive used avent since beginning ff, at first i too thought it wasnt working untill hubby realised Brodie had his tongue on the roof of his mouth so he couldnt suck.
they are excellant as you see the bubbles and hear the whisle once hes on properly.

Avent is great.. i use nothing but avent. When putting it in his mouth make sure his lips are around the wide part of the teat and that his tongue is down and not on the roof of his mouth.. once you've done that, pull the teat away just a fraction so that theres a little pressure while he's sucking.. sorta like making him work to get the milk out IYKWIM (hard to explain) while you are doing that if the teat doesn't slip out of his mouth really easy then he is on properly and if it does slip out of his mouth then he isn't on right.
I hope this helps.

I used the Avent bottles for DD from about 5 weeks old BUT I used the Pidgeon Peristaltic? teats in the beginning (they fit perfectly on the AVENT bottles and were recommended by the Childhood Nurse) then eventually moved to the Avent ones once she had a stronger sucking power. The Pidgeon ones are great.

I know exactly how you feel as i went thru the same thing.
I started out on the avent bottles but she was having trouble getting those huge teats to sit comfortably in her mouth and would chuck tantrums and start screaming then she would gulp it too fast and start choking. I brought soo many different types of bottles and teats its not funny and ive found the best ones for my little girl were the PUR TOMMEE TIPPEE teats and then a narrow neck tommee tippee bottle. I brought all these items from woolworths. The newborn Pur teats have the valve but the 3-6mnths Pur teat doesnt. However i found if i didnt do the lid up too tight on the bottle then the bubbles would come up thru the milk and she'd get a good flow happening.
They are slightly simmilar in shape to the Nuk teats but alot smaller.
I swear by them after spending a fortune searching for the right ones.
He does not like the wide neck teats which is a bummer. But we have found a teat that he likes and gets a seal on. The pur orthadontic teats. About time. So we are fine now.
