I was just wondering how long after a c-section you should wait before having intercourse again????

I am only asking as I got into trouble off one of my friends when she found out the DP and I had sex when DS2 was 4 weeks old. I mean come on, it's not her body.

I think as soon as you damn well feel like it:D !!!!!!!! I cant remember exactly (memory like a sieve) but it was just as soon as we both felt comfortable. Dont worry bout your friend

As soon as you feel confident enough, (mentally and also with respect to your stitches)

2 weeks here........no wonder I had the second kid so soon!

When ever you feel comfortable.
I had a VB and stiches first time round and we waited the 6 weeks, only because I was under the assumption you had to do it to make sure everything was ok. I wish I'd waited because I wasn't ready.
But after DS2 I think we only waited 3 or 4 weeks.

I'm pretty sure the handout from the hospital said until you're both comfortable and ready. I think it was about 4 weeks for us.

Tell your friend (nicely!) to MIND HER OWN BEESWAX! - egad.. that's an old expression

As soon as you feel ready

A lady I worked with once has 4 children (all vaginal births) She and her DH wanted them as close together as possible. The eldest two kids are 10.5 months apart!

Mum's friend's two kids are only 8.5 months apart....

I think it was four weeks for us too. Maybe sooner this time as I can't remember when I last did it.

I agree with the others, its your body, your choice. If you have a good recovery from c/section and are not in pain (in the womb/abdominal area), then go for it. DH & I first had sex two weeks post c/s and there were no problems (my bleeding had stopped and so did the pain).

After my first C/S it was about 4 months because I was not interested until then and #2 C/S it was 9 weeks because I didn't feel ready before then.

Old joke:

Obstetrics professor: Now then, how soon after delivery can a couple resume intercourse?

Medical student: As soon as they want?

Obstetrics professor: That is correct. However, a gentleman waits for the afterbirth...

Joking aside, I realise that intercourse anytiome soon after either C/S or VB is just asking for trouble, but does that apply equally to non-penetrative sex?

I don't think so, as long as whatever you're doing doesn't place strain (in the case of a c/s) on the wound.

I think you should do it when you feel ready for it!!

There is no "set" date for when you have to ... get back into it ... because everyone is different!

For some its 3 weeks, others its 5 weeks, some its 12 weeks, others its more like 6 months, and for some, its more like 2 years ;)

I would have told that person to shut their cake hole :D

How'd they manage that

I didn't have a cs...but I did have tears and stitches both times...we waited 6 weeks after DS was born (3rd degree tear) and only 3 weeks after DD was born (1st degree tear).

Whenever you & your partner feel ready is the right time...your friend should mind her own business  I try to have an interest in my friends lives...but I'm not that interested

How'd they manage that

She fell pregnant again almost immediately after the first one was born, and the second baby was premmie.

Not my idea of fun at all

I was told 6 weeks because of risk of infection and to also wait for bleeding to stop - which was 6 weeks for me. Any literature I have supports this advice but hey - if you are up for it then why not?

We waited 3 weeks (and for Mr Noodle - that didn't include other stuff - that happened before 3weeks).

I'm thinking this time it might be earlier as I'm feeling pretty healthy 10days on, the tiredness and getting up for bubs is more of an issue!

Thank you everyone. My friend can't talk really, in total she has 8 kids. It is just weird as with all the other births I never felt like it for months afterwards but this time, wow, my labido is up through the roof. Even while I was pregnant this time I still wanted it. Even with lack of sleep and attending to the 5 kids and the house I wake him when I go to bed or after a night feed. It all just feels weird.
Anyhow I go for my 6 week check up today, so I will let you know what the doc says.
Thanks girls.

Well I had my check up and everything is fine. My uterus still hasn't gone down all the way but he said that could take another 6 weeks. So I will go back then.
I also asked about the intercourse and he said it was fine and that if I wanted to resume back then then it is fine. So she can stick you know where.
