hey guys :)

im not sure if im in the right section but my husband and i have been ttc for the past 18 months and have now decided to go to a FS...

i just had a councilling appointment this morning and im more confused then ever :s
my councilling lady was talking about microinjection icsi can anyone explain that to me at all i know it sounds silly she was more interested in what our childhood and finances were like then explaining what on earth the procedure is, is it IVF or something similar?

ive done some research on the net but to no avail so i was hoping someone may have done this before or maybe able to explain it a little more clearer to me and the costs of it as well

thanks ladies :) xx kaylie

I'm most likely going to be doing IVF and below is what I have learnt along the way. I'm not sure on the finer details but I have the basics down. Perhaps the IVF page will give you a more acurate explanation as most of those ladies are either doing it or have had it done.

IVF - Is when they retreive eggs from your ovaries and they get your DH sperm (or dontated sperm) and basically place them in a petrie dish together and hope that they fertilise by themselves (obviously it is watched very closley).

ICSI - This is where they do the same process as above but instead of letting them fertilise naturally in the petrie dish they actually inject the sperm in to the egg to fertilise it.

I typically thought that IVF was ISCI and I think most people when they think of IVF think of ICSI without realising it. I think that is what the media lead us into believing.

Does that all make sense????

I can't explain the cost side of things because it confuses me. They tend to quote your out of pocket including any medicare rebate and also if you have reached the safety net which is no good for me as we won't have reached the "safety net". I find all that very unhelpful but no matter what the cost DH says that we will do it if we have to regardless.
