Hi everyone.
I'm now 23 weeks PG and don't know which position to take in my bed.
Now , I heard soooooo many things about NOT sleeping on the back ( Baby putting pressure on major blood vessels (the aorta and vena cava).
Some say it's wrong , some say it does not matter ???
I'm to the point now where I sleep with my pillow under my knees and try to get comfortable FIRST ... in any position ... !!!
I was just interested to know what has been said to you ...
Thanks for your help.

I've been told not to sleep on my back for the same reason...
And I've been told not to sleep on my tummy either.
I was told it was best to sleep on my side with pillows as support... however I have really bad hips, so noway is good for me lol.
I have to wait until I am so tired I can barely stay awake, just to be able to sleep, as I can't get comfy.

most people say pillow under the stomach but i cant stand anything touching my stomach, so i lay on my side with my top leg on top of 2 pillows, that way there is no pressure on my belly. Hips and thighs get sore after a couple of hours though, and then theres the fun of rolling over and trying to take the pillows with you!!

i found the absolutely most comfortable position was the first aid "recovery position"...... top night sleep with that one.
those pillows you can get are really good too.

I don't sleep on my back, because I find I get short of breath. I think it puts pressure on the pulmonory artery as well (leads to the lungs). Even if I roll onto my back when asleep the breathlessness wakes me up now.
I sleep on my side with a cushion between my knees - that tends to stop me rolling onto my stomach.
As the belly gets bigger rolling onto my back is getting harder - I remember by the end of DD's pregnancy I had to wake up, sit up and totally reposition myself to do it anyway

i couldn't have gotten through my pregnancy without one of those body pillows - you know the really long ones.
I basically had it between my legs and then the top of me cuddled it like a person.....very comfy.
i did sleep on my back on the odd occasion, however, as you move further along you will find this less and less comfy....

oh sleep it use to be such a luxury !! I am 16wks and have had troubles sleeping for the last month! I cant sleep on my back ..Im a tummy sleeper and sleep on my tummy for an hr or two but its really uncomfortable now..i also have a pillow on my sides and sort of put my stomach on the pillow for a bit of added support. I find when i sleep on my sides i get pins and needles after awhile. So basically i am getting a few hrs sleep then waking and tossing and turning all night. I have forgotten what a good nights sleep is ahhhhhhhhh Its a real struggle to sleep now
oh well guess its all the beginning of it hey
does anyone know where to get those body pillows from? they sound really good.
cheers.

bad news beatrice...by the time i was 8 or 9 months...I was hardly sleeping at all - i would get up about 20 times to go to the loo (no joke), bubs would be kicking....at least by that stage its not long to go..
ps u get those body pillows from most homeware stores - like Pillow Talk in QLD, i think even target and k-mart might sell them

I am one week off having my bundle and sleep, what's that???? I wake up on the hour and can't manage to get back to sleep. Pins and needles every which way I lie it really sucks.
Make the most of what sleep you can get now as it only gets worse. Pillows galore in my bed can't even move, and I can't stop snoring as my passages are blocked. That's a great thing too.

It's hard to wish you a good night sleep but I'm wishing you a good one anyway  ... thank you for sharing your story ...

Well , I went to see my OB today for my routine visit and asked him about this position on the back at night . He said to try not to sleep on my back  but if I was to wake up in the middle of the night laying on it , it was not a drama ... just turn back on my side ...
I'm just trying to get COMFY !!!

i'm at 36 weeks now ..... and let me tell you sleep is a precious commodity.
i'd just like to say ... get used to sleeping on your side as EARLY as you can because you will reach a point where you can't sleep on your back because of the whole breathing thing .......... i went to sleep on my side and would wake up on my back till maybe 30ish weeks ...... but after that whenever i was on my back i'd wake up dizzy, lightheaded .... and the reflux thing when sleeping on your back means you wake up every few hours anyway!
the only things i have found that works ...... being as relaxed as you can when you go to bed (eg bath before bed, hot drink, whatever) ..... a body pillow ..... and patience. eventually you get so tired that you'll sleep well, even if only for one night!
you can also get the pillows from spotlight

Hi girls, I am reading through this thread and having a good laugh because I remember just how it was when I was pregnant. I would get up to the go the loo and by the time I got back to bed I needed to go to the loo again!!
I slept with 8 pillows in the bed, my husband thought I was going mad and I snored like a trooper. I put on over 20 kg and the little fella only came out weighing 2.5kg - work that one out:confused: . I had sore hips, cramps, pins and needles you name it. I found sleeping propped up on my 8 pillows to be the best position, still on my back but almost like the position you are in when you are reading a book in bed!
 You think you aren't getting much sleep now - Wait till bubs arrives!!!
Good luck with your pregnancies ladies! :D
