Hi,
I would love some advice!
My 20 month old daughter has had a rash on her cheeks for the last 2 weeks. Initially the doctor thought it was a food intolerance but it hasn't gone away despite cortisone cream, paw paw cream, sorbelene, you name it I've tried it!
It has never been itchy and she doesn't even know it's there. There is a smaller version of the rash on the back of her elbows which is also not itchy. It started off very dry and firey and raised up from the cheeks, now it's flush with her face and not at all dry. Her cheeks feel perfectly normal, but it's almost as if the rash has scarred her face. It's looks scaly but is not at all dry anymore. Naturally, I just want it to go away so her gorgeous little cheeks are back to normal.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi there,
I asked my my husband his opinion on this (he is a Pharmacist) and this is what he said:
It's hard to tell without seeing the rash but it sounds like a mild form of childhood eczema or psoriasis.
These cases are usually treated with a mild cream containing salicylic acid from the chemist such as ego cradle cap lotion.
Alternatively, a really superior product for childhood skin problems is called
"SKIN BALM by BIO JUVEN" It costs about $25 to $30 for 100g.
Don't worry, the good news is that usually babies grow out of these rashes.
Another possibility is that she's having a reaction to formula, if she's on it and may need to switch to a lactose free formula.
Also, get an opinion from your local Pharmacist. I say this because they are pretty cluey about these things. When you ask the Pharmacist, take your little girl in so that they can see the skin condition for themselves. They will then know what to recommend because they have extensive training and know all the products.
I hope this information helps a little.
Goodluck!

Hi Nadia,
My 5 1/2 month son also developed a rash very similar to what your describing at about 3 months. I also was told that it could be a dairy intolerance, or a skin dermatitis. My Chiropractor suggested Calendula ointment, which is all natural and it works wonders on his face. Their faces are such delicate areas that I didn't want to put anything too harsh on it, especially following a serious case of conjuctivitis.
You can get it from any chemist, and it's a very reasonable price. It's lasted me ages and I use it everytime his cheeks flair up. I thought Olivers was a reaction from Zantac, but I'm still investigating.
Good luck.

Could it be a teething rash. Will gets a similar rash and his cheeks go very red, inflamed and raised when he is getting another tooth.
It tends to stay a few weeks and then goes until the next tooth appears.
Hope you find an answer

ps try some paw-paw ointment on it. It will also help to protect those little raw cheeks from the cold wind. Works a treat for Will
Hi all,
My son had something similar and was diagnosed with slapped cheek, is quite common amongst children. Jarred also came out with a rash on his torso. After that cleared up, he still had the red cheeks, so the doctor prescribed mild cortison (cant remember how to spell it). And it has now cleared up.
Do a search on the internet for it. Not all kids get the rash, or the real rosy cheeks.
