View Full Version : A question about sperm (TMI warning)

I have a question about sperm (which will be detailed, so don't say you weren't warned :p ) This evening we bd'ed and then I lay there with a pillow under my bum for about 20 min, and then rolled onto my side and read a book for another 10-20 min. Then I got up and went for a wee, and a whole lot of DH's stuff came out (which I noticed in the loo water). It was sort of in a stringy glob like egg white, but some white and some clear. (told you I would get detailed! ) So here's my question: Does that mean that the Bd'ing was fruitless or could I still have some swimmers left inside of me? and is that what it's mean to look like?

I have taken at this time of the month to usually bd just before sleep and then not getting up until the next morning, and I don't notice any of DH's stuff. Should it have fallen out if I lay there with my bum up etc. or does that mean it's not the right time of the month for me (and my cervix is not open enough)?

Any info would be appreciated. (Sorry if I grossed anyone out :o )

Well they ALL cant make it to the golden egg, otherwise we wouldn't ever have any problems in conceiving!

Nothing wrong - dont stress. Definitely not a fruitless evening!

rofl .. dont feel too sensitive about the topic. .. you worded it all well :)

I doubt that everything came out .. the pillow under the bum is quite effective .. lol .. I lay with my legs against the wall .. and we got pg extremely quickly lol!! - some stuff always comes out (and lets face it .. its gross stuff.. so you dont want it sitting in there.. rofl )

good luck .. and I hope that all happens quickly!!!

yeah, remember,it only takes one lol.

On another note though, I must say that in the past I have noticed that on the days where I am ovulating, less comes out.. compared to the non fertile days, so I do think that if your cervix is more closed, you will get more.

good luck

Little fishy, perhaps DH just had a very large deposit that night!

I'd say many would have found their way. The others just said "hands on heads not playing" cause there were so many.

There you go, a scientific explanation for you.

I believe also the majority of what does come back out easily is just fluid and not the actual sperm... plus there would have been millions of sperm and it only takes 1 to get to that egg.

I normally put a pair of knickers with a pad inserted in them in the bedside draw, after BDing I prop up my pelvis on a pillow (or turn around in the bed and put my legs high up on the wall) for about 15 minutes or whatever then carefully put on the knickers and go to sleep (that way as you sleep and turn over etc it doesnt make a mess!). However Im sure if you spoke to a fertility expert they will tell you even proping your pelvis up is not necessary for conception.. (but IMO it cant hurt!)

little_fish - some of that fluid may have been your contribution as well.

There are heaps of sperm each time, so they have to go somewhere. I look on it as the good ones keep swimming up, the duds go swimming down through the toilet pipes.

Definitely not a fruitless evening! I have always had some...errr..."remnants"...afterwards and thats with lying on my back, bum against the wall and legs vertically against the wall for 20 mins. I can assure you even if you have some "remnants" you can fall pregnant. I have only used the legs in the air method twice and both times ended up pregnant! :D

Wow thanks everybody for you responses  So I guess I am in with a chance...

Jo - good point about some of it being mine, I had never considerd that :o

And thanks Kriscee, nice to know that there's evidence out there that there's still enough swimmers left over to fertilise and egg!

I remembered reading this and had to search for it coz (and again TMI!) the last 2 days after BDing with DP, *nothing* of his has come out! usually I'm quite messy after butthis time its just.. yeah.. so I hope Nuddle is right and maybe its all getting to where it needs to be!!

I agree with jo that this contrabution could have been from you too so dont stress too much. I sure it got to where it was needed...lol

Hmm actually it didn't (this post was from last cycle). So maybe it's a bit of an indication... or maybe it's a bit of coincidence. who knows:rolleyes: Either way I'd say it sounds good for you Alatariel :fingerscrossed:

I always used to get heaps of mucus the day before O'ing which was like the white of an egg, so this could be mixed in with your man's deposit lol.
Our fertility clinic actually told us that once the sperm enters the uterus they don't come back out because the cervix and vagina are shaped that way to prevent it. So they basically stay in there until they die and come out with normal discharge or your period... interesting hey?
(But I must admit, the bum in the air trick does make you feel like you're "helping them along a bit" :p ) ;)

What goes in must come out. The cervix acts like a suction device, it will suck most of the sperm up where it needs to go. Most of what comes back out is probably yours and his seminal fluid. It is totally normal. I would say there are plenty left behind for the egg.
