My son has been on Losec for the past 5 weeks and he hates taking the meds. I hate giving it to him and want to give up, but know that the pain will come back if we do. I give it to him in a medicine dummy, and he has learnt how to keep it in the back of his mouth and spit it all out. He won't even attach to my breast after the medication. I am the enemy, I am sure this is why he plays up for me. Wade won't give it to him for that reason. I hate so much giving him his meds, does anyone have any suggestions. I have even tried syringing of late and he still spits it out and won't attach to my boob.

Isn't Losec the hardest thing to give?!! Our DS is on it too - we syringe it but it'shard to get it all a) into the syringe and then b) outta the syringe!!

Have you tried mixing it with a little expressed breast milk instead of water?

Ours is called Omeprazole, it is the losec already mixed (the chemist mix it for you), but you have to keep it in the fridge, so I warm it b4 giving it to him, but he hates the taste and as I said just detests it with a passion and thinks I am the biggest meany!!!!!!

I am not sure what Losac is but I think most bubs hate anything that isn't milk at such a young age. My DS1 had to start taking phenobarbitone elixir when he was about 6 months old which is an anti-convulsant that is 98% ethanol. The stuff was like taking a shot of vodka! A very helpful nurse at the hospital showed us how to hold bub to make sure they swallow. But is isn't something a can explain very well I don't think so I won't try to confuse you but I do suggest asking you Child health nurse if they know. Another that was suggested to me is to try not to feed him close to the time he has his medication to help get past the breast refusalthing and not to hold him in a feeding position. I'm not sure if that is possible with the losac?
If your partner can't or won't give it to bub for you put on one of his dirty shirts when you do it. That way you will smell like Dad and not like Mum. I used this trick when weaning during the night because as soon as bub realised it was Mum putting him back to sleep he would want a feed!

Hope you can sort it all out.

Hi I had to give this stuff to DD, but it didnt help. Then we were switched to Zoton which is a pink powder with white granules in it that you mix with water. The powder is a sweet tasting thing. The meds are in the granules. Maybe you could try this. In the end I hated myself for giving such a young baby medication and still beat myself up about it a year later. Nothing worked. Good luck.
