Well I think (did I say think) we finally have my wound under control. I haven't had the best of recoveries and here is my story (thought I would share):
1. Firstly I started discharging slightly 6 days after surgery, and my sister and I went to the hospital, they said it was ok.
2. Then within a few more days I went to the Gin Gin Hospital again as I started discharging profusely red/brown from wound through the middle and it only appeared that it was draining from the right not the left. The told me it was a haematoma and they were concerned about the left side. The doctor there rang my gyno and he said to put me on antibiotics just incase.
3. My gyno fobbed me off for 2 weeks, in which I was most upset as all the dressings the hospital gave me, i was bleeding through. I decided seeing as I had alot of maternity pads left to give that a burl, and whalaaaa, the pads were saturated but atleast no more staining of my clothes.
4. I finally got to see my gyno and he said, no not a haematoma but my skin was reacting to the superficial layer of stitches. But when I saw the child health nurse (who saw my wound at the start) and said rubbish if he had of seen you two weeks ago he would have seen the haematoma and she suggested that she has had one before and mine was the biggest one she has ever seen. Anyway it must have been a combination or the reaction to the stitches caused the haematoma??? as the bleeding instantly subsided once he cut the stitches. This was all done at my 4 week checkup, normally 6 week.
5. I bled minimally for another 2 weeks and it was browny/green, so at my 6 week check it had nearly cleared up, but then he suggested that deep within my wound he thought I had an absys. He never explained anything to me ie: pain/discharge, just said to give it another 6 weeks and if it was no better that he would have to operate again. I was so upset to think 12 weeks recovery or longer from a caesar and I had just had enough. I went and got a second opinion, and that doctor sent me for a scan, and sure enough there was a sac of fluid deep but doc indicated it would probably absorb itself as it was only about 2cm round.
6. Then I got news that I had an abnormal papsmear come back and had to have it retested in 6mths. Now I know this is not the end of the world, but it was the end of the line for me. I had had enough, my recovery has been so hard, harder then I could have ever imagined! So needless to say if I get a choice next time and there is no breach birth scenario I will not be choosing a caesar!
So my confusion of late is the absys and it still kinda is as when I went to that recent doctors appt, Lachie cracked the biggest wobbely and we hardly got to speak about me, more so the cough of lachies when he cries and he sent us directly to the paedatrician, but as it turns out the cough is most probably associated to the reflux.
I just felt like I haven't coped as well as I should have with looking after my baby when my body just wasn't co-operating and I felt so ill myself.
Hopefully there are better days ahead, just hard to see at times, when you are soooo sleep deprived!
I have heard so many positive stories from ceasars and just wondering why I suffered so badly.
I don't wish this kinda stuff on my worst enemy really, so I am glad to hear so many positive stories.
