When bf'ing is there tongue meant to come out of there mouth when they're sucking?
I've only noticed this these last few days but DD's tongue is always poking out of her mouth when shes sucking and she cant stay on for more tan a few minutes she slips off and just sucks on my nipple
Hi Charmzy, sounds to me like she isn't latching properly, make sure she is opening her mouth really wide when latching on, that way you'll beable to get as much nipple and breast into her mouth, you don't want her just feeding of the end of the nipple, you nipple will get very very sore because of it.
good luck with it all

DS's tongue pokes out slightly, sortof inline with his bottom lip.
Yes the tongue is supposed to be sticking out (a bit, it should be over their gums at least. It is the tongue and top lip that completes the seal on the areola. This is why it can be difficult (but not impossible - trust me) to BF a baby with a tongue tie, they can't always stick their tongue out far enough to make a proper seal.
Incidentally, this is also why it isn't possible for a baby with only bottom teeth to bite you while they are feeding, they have to stop sucking, pull their tongue in and THEN bite you.
As long as his mouth is making that special K shape, sounds like you are both doing GREAT.
