Wednesday (28th June 06) morning arrived at the hospital at 9:30am and was admitted down stairs which was really odd as I had no idea what to expect given it was my first scheduled csect and not emergency. That was just basic confirmation of who i am and what i was there for then upstairs to the maternity ward to settle in.

Lots of paperwork to fill out and things to sign. I was told I was going to be second for my csect but they did my BSL and it was getting low already so at about 11:45am I found out I would be first in so only 1hr 15 mins til Csect time!!!

The doctor and anesthiast (sp?) came and talked to me about what was happening and asked how i wanted to be stitched up. I never realised i got a choice in that! I opted for a stitch that has to be removed as compared to disolvable stitches i had the last two times because apparently its 'neater' with a normal stitch.

They had me put the sexy (haha) gown on and then at 1pm wheeled me down to surgery... they had a cos i thought i would be walking down there but nope they take the bed

I was taken into a little bay where i had to sign another consent form and go over a few things with the doctors again and all the other ppl that would be in there came and introduced themselves.

I was wheeled into get the spinal done and they started trying to get it in. This was HORRIBLE. They had lots of trouble getting it in and it kept sending sharp HORRIBLY painful zaps down my left leg and making my a mile which really didnt help them get it in. I could feel the needle moving around in my back and hitting the bones in my spine, it felt like it was grinding them which again was horrible. I was starting to get really upset over the pain and starting to stress over it going REALLY wrong and the 'what if's that you are warned about before they start doing it. Finally success tho and they told me I could lie down but I already couldnt lift my legs back up onto the bed! It worked fast!

Into theatre we go and I was so excited to meet my princess!

It felt like it was taking forever for them to get to her but really only took about 15 minutes, they were meant to tell us when they were lifting her out so the screen could be lowered but we heard her first so they quickly put it down... she started squealing before she was even out

Anyway, up she came and we got a good look at her before they took her to do her APGARs and clean her up. Then she was bought over to us and cuddle and kiss time began

Instantly the surgeon started apologising to us, in the process of cutting my uterus they'd sliced a little of Savannahs face. Later I was told my uterus was paper thin and both the surgeons believe if I had have gone into labour there would have been a very big chance it would have ruptured. (this little nick on her face has scabbed over nicely and will be gone very very soon)

Then the problems began for me, there was a lot more scar tissue than they imagined which had pushed my bladder up very high and they thought they had nicked it during surgery so they pumped me full of green dye to see if they had, they didnt think they had in the end but were fairly sure they had bumped it so I had to have the cathedar in for 48 hours instead of the normal 24hours and was told to expect a bit of discomfort as my bladder filled when the cathedar came out (they were right but it only lasted antoher day).

The op took a LOT longer than it normally would have and the surgeon told me she got a few more grey hairs doing it. I was advised that 3 csects is probably enough for me, but knowing that i did want one more I asked what she thinks that would be like for me. She advised that I would not be able to have another incision there and would need to have an up and down one which carries more risks as well. She also advised that with how thin my uterus was this time, it would probably be even thinner next time and she said she imagined i would be hospitalized from around 20-22 weeks and have a premmie because of the high risk of it rupturing and it can cause a lot of severe pain being that thin etc. So tho im trying not to thinka bout that at the moment.. Savannah is looking like our last regardless of me wanting one more.

Anyway it had been pre-arranged AMAZINGLY that savannah could accompy me to recovery to breastfeed immediatly because of fear of her BSL's dropping but surgery took so long they were getting ready to take her away anyway. Thankfully they finished just in time and she got to stay with me.

During the hour before surgery they had hand expressed me as they told me she would have to have forumla straight after birth and I objected strongly to this. So in recovery savannah was syringed the EBM and then put to the breast which was brilliant!!!

We were then taken back to the maternity ward and savannah was taken to be weighed and what not. Thankfully this didnt take long but I was veryyyy anxious the whole time!

Anyway thats her birth story.. I could go on forever I'm sure

It was my best c-sect experience in terms of and getting what I wanted but the worst for me with all the complications. I NEVER imagined things like that could happen during surgery or that I'd come out of it being told not to have any more children but I came out also with the equal most precious girl in the world (equal with her big sis of course )
