Hey Ladies
Just thought I would ask all out there if they have any similar stories etc and what the outcome was... My sister was told at her 18 week scan that she was indeed having a boy the sonographer even double checked and said it was a boy. Now she has just had a 29week 3d scan and they have said that no its not a boy its a girl??????
Which one would be more accurate????
I think she was really hoping got a boy as it will be the first boy in her BF family, and not to mention the fact that she has gone out and bought all boy stuff.
What could it be

Anyone??
Hi,
I'm no expert, but I would probably *think* the most recent ultrasound is likely to be more accurate because bub and its parts would be bigger and more easy to determine. But like I said, I'm certainly no expert and someone might have a better idea than me.
We didn't find out the sex at either of my boys ultrasounds, however with DS2 I was trying really hard to look. While I couldn't see any obvious dangly bits on the 20 week ultrasound (and I had 2 of them) or any of the pics I was given, we had a growth scan at 30 weeks and when the OB started I could straight away see what I thought was a scrotum, it was quite obvious. But it was very quick and he started looking from a different angle after only a second so I didn't get a great look. Still, my initial thoughts were proved correct at birth.

That would be horrible to be told that your having a baby boy at 18 weeks then told your having a girl later on..
With dd i went through the same thing. Df and i found out she was a girl at 19 weeks and then i had to have a check up scan at 29 weeks due to me having a low laying placenta. So we wanted to double check she was a girl as we went out and brought everything for a girl. This guy turns around and goes its a boy. My jaw dropped. I couldnt get over being told that she was a girl then 10 weeks later she had turned in to a boy.
So when i was 32 weeks i went back to the doctor and said i want another ultrasound as i thought something wasnt right. ( I said that just so i could get another ultrasound just to comfirm she was a boy) I went in for the ultrasound and they turned around and said nope she in deed is a girl. and pointed out how to tell she was a girl.
This time around i got told he was a boy at 16 weeks as they could see his little willy and then i had another ultrasound at 25 weeks and got it comfirmed he was a boy and indeed he is as you can see a boys little willy alot more clear.
If i was her i would just request to have another ultrasound. Just get her to tell them she wants everything to be comfirmed that everything is going okay.
then at the ultrasound get them to comfirm the sex.
I would suggest the 3d scan would probably be a little more accurate if her 1st was a 2d. But it depends on if they got a good angle on them both. It is more common for people to be told it is a girl, then turns out to be a boy, but it can go the other way.
I was told the 20weeks scan was the most accurate detection for gender but I would assume 3d would be pretty accurate. If your sister realy wants to know and can afford it there are places that do specific gender detection scans in 4D. I think its a couple hundred dollars though.
