Hey guys, what is a 'modern cloth' nappy. I would much prefer to use cloth but the intitial expense turned me off (on the modern ones i saw), i have regular cloth nappies but never used them, mainly because none of DS's clothes would fit him cause the bum was too big from all the padding, i also couldn't figure out how to fold them and put them on properly, and as soon as they were wet they came undone.... i guess i just couldn't be bothered at the time. I have heard of 'ezynappy' which look fantastic, but are expensive, are there any cheaper and still functional alternatives??

the ones i like are greenkids pocket nappies and they are quite trim under clothes - a bit more bulky than a sposie but less than a folded terry.

have a look at all the different one on www.ozebaby.com.au or the green kids - www.greenkids.com.au

i know the fruitsalad ones are very trim.

one of the best people to ask would be Veve. Come on Veve - nappy question for you.

There are many different types of nappies on the market I guess finding the right one for you is the hard part.

Check out this site it is good for understanding the different terminology used:

http://www.allaboutnappies.com/understanding.php

Perhaps also check out e-bay for cheap nappies.

Here are a few suggestions for nappies to look at:

www.eenee.com.au
http://www.cherubskiss.com/
http://www.babybeehinds.com.au/http://www.theweewuns.au.com/?gclid=CPOfkMPTpIYCFR2ZTAodNEPwAghttp://www.bummis.com/

The last link is for a really good cover.;)

There are many more different types of nappies on the market but that should keep you busy looking at those sites for a while!:p

I couldn't really afford to buy the new style of cloth nappies, so we use the training pants.
I put a piece of polar fleece in as extra padding and absorbing with a regular old pilcher on the outside and bob's your uncle!
Works for me anyway.;)

ok- go to www.ozclothnappies.org for all the information you could possibly need on modern cloth nappies...

the brands that I recommend to other people are

baby beehinds.. www.babybeehinds.com.au
honeyboys from www.cherubskiss.com
and
greens pocket nappies from www.greenkids.com.au

but other people love other nappies... so have a good look around and decide for yourself :)

hope that helps :D

Also you can get basically new nappies very cheap from the auctions.
You can check them out here. (http://www.buyena.com/) I got a pocket that had been worn once for $9.99.:D

Thanks for the links ladies. It seems that the alternatives you gave me are actually dearer than the 'ezynappy' brand. I think i'll go with the ezy nappy ones. Has anyone had any experience with these?? The medium ones are only $19.50 and you don't need inserts or covers as they are an all in one thing, i reckon they look pretty good. Thanks for the info though :D

You can always just start off by buying one a week or whatever you can afford and build you stash up that way. It sounds like alot of money to buy a whole cloth set up in one go but if you change to cloth slowly it can be more affordable and i have found that with nappies you get what you pay for IYKWIM.

If you don't want to spend heaps, have a look at Peapods (http://www.peapods.com.au/).

I got a couple of these at the Baby Expo recently and so far they have been pretty good. I paid $15 each for mine, I don't think they are much more than that to buy online tho. They come with an 'absorber' which the lady at the expo told me was hemp, most pocket nappies I have looked at getting don't come with this. My DD is 8mths and about 9kg and she fits the medium size...I tried it on DS who is 3yrs old and it just fit him too so I don't think I'll need to buy any bigger sizes for DD...unless she is still in nappies at 3yrs

Anyway, just another option :)

I can second the Pea Pods. They are $15.95 online and they also have in store stockists so you can actually have a look at it and see what you think. Here's the link:

Have a good look at the composition of the different nappies, and I'd always recommend trying out one or two of a particular product before buying a stash. Also - be aware that ezy nappies are stuffed with polyester cushion-type wadding, not absorbent cotton, hemp or bamboo. This may or may not suit you.

I'm not sure what the difference is, sorry, is the polyester ones not as absorbent as the cotten ones?? I guess i should just buy a few different ones and see which ones i like. :)

Thanks ladies!

How to illustrate.... imagine dumping a jug or two of water on a polyester cushion, then sitting on it! Squidge. Splash.
