I was told of someone with the same condition as me, and was told to go on a diet, I think Atkins diet, no bread etc, and she lost the extra weight she put on, should I go on one and if so, what foods do I need to cut out, and what should I be eating?

Hi. I also have polycystic ovaries. You can get more (reliable) info here: http://www.posaa.asn.au/, As to diet, one that's low GI is generally what's recommended, with limited carbs. You should try to avoid refined carbs - white bread, potatoes, etc, and eat lots of whole grains, pulses (lentils, beans etc). It's not a difficult diet to stick to and most people who follow it find they lose weight fairly easily - even if losing weight has been difficult before. You should also try to exercise at least three-four times a week. Easier said than done, I know. Hope that helps.
Also, the CSIRO has a really good diet book out that you can buy in the bookshops. It has lots of recipes for meals that emphasise protein and limit carbs. They've also done heaps of research and they explain why they think this is the best way to lose weight. It makes interesting reading and it will give you lots of ideas for plenty of yummy meals that you can eat.
