Hello. We are currently pregnant with #4. After 3 boys we have tried to sway the odds of getting our little girl. We DTD up until 3 days before O. Do you think we got the timing right for a girl, or is it still too close to O?

We concieved our DD by stopping 3 days prior to O.... everyone is different though. Good luck :)

I'd say you're definitely in with a chance, however as the PP says, everyone is different. We conceived DS2 from stopping 2 days prior to O, which has resulted in girls for many people I've spoken to (not us obviously!), so I guess nobody can say for sure, but you've definitely got a good chance :smiliedance: Good luck, and I hope you get your little girl after 3 beautiful boys!

Are you going to find out? Good luck too!

best of luck with your girl!!
But we got our timing right for a boy (only DTD after O as DH was away) and we're getting a girl anyway! Like PP said, everyone's different, but I think you've certainly increased your chances!! :)

Good luck! I have my :fingerscrossed: that you are growing a girl. I have no experience with th 'O' thing. I have PCOS so I have no idea when or if I 'O'.
I only posted because every time i see your user name it makes me smile. I currently have 2 sons and am almost 18 weeks pregnant. I never realised until now that I actually want a girl and if we have a girl we want to call her Sarah. So in some stupid way I'm hoping your user name brings me luck:o

So what do you do if you want to fall pg with a boy?

According to the Shettles theory you DTD 24 hours up to O, on O and the 12 hours following O.

But the male choses what the sex the baby will be, so how can that happen.

Is the shettles theory more correct than wrong?

sarahsboys
07-12-2009, 17:03
The theory is that the male sperm swim faster but die quicker than the female sperm. So therefore if you DTD close to Ovulation, the male sperm should get to the egg first before they die, leaving only the female sperm. I think the Shettles Method has about an 80% success rate. This is what we used anyway. One of the key things is knowing when you ovulate. I have a very regular 28 day cycle, so it was pretty easy for me. They say for a girl you DTD every day from the end of your period until 3-4 days before ovulation. I will let you know if it worked for us soon!

we did the shettles timing too. Cyvle 1 we stopped 5 days before O BFN. Cycle 2 we stopped 4 days prior BFN and on cycle 3 we stopped 3 days prior to O and our DD is now 13 mo :)

sarahsboy...we were contemplating not finding out if and when we're lucky enough to have a 3rd bub...but knowing me i'll get to the scan and wont be able to help myself.

kezza...thats the plan that we're gonna use i think if we dont get a bfp this month...mind u i have got hubby to start wearing undies instead of boxers now so we'll just have to see i guess

good luck to all :)

I think 3 days before O is perfect for a girl the main point is though that it can be hard to know when 3 days before is until after its happened lol But I think anything less than 3days might be stretching it in terms of the survival of sperm.
We dtd 3 days before O and got our girl so we swear by it.

Well, we had our scan today and as soon as I saw the baby's face, I thought wow that looks like a girls face, a lot different to the others. But it was not to be, apparently 75% chance it will be another BOY! I'm not sure whether I should just accept it, or keep a small hope alive that it may still be a girl.... I'm not sure how accurate the 12 week scans are at determining the gender? I had a look on google at what the girl's bit look like and was surprised that they do look a bit like a penis, as in they protrude out between the legs....

Anyone been told BOY and then found out GIRL. I know that I am clinging to anything now, that might give me hope....

14-12-2009, 12:38
Oh Sarah, lets hope they got it wrong hey hun.....Trust me i've read lots of stories where they got it wrong on both sexes so if you want you hold on to that hope.......nothing worse than not getting a conclusive answer.........i reckon girls are harder to see a lot of times so:fingerscrossed: it was just the cord or the angle...did they get right up under bub, best results for a girl i've seen were from that angle...... like 3 lines or a hamburger ??? sorry,.....now i guess you'll be hanging for the 20 week scan hey.....i feel for you hun i really do...lots of :hugs::kiss: and more :hugs:

I held out hope for a girl all the way through Joely's pregnancy. But alas, wasn't to be.

12 week scans can be a bit inaccurate, so there is still a 25% chance on a girl. Don't give up all hope till at least the 18 week scan, hopefully they get a great pic of it then and can give you a much higher percentage.

Hugs though Sarah, i know how crushing it can be. xoxo

12 weeks is too early to tell... Maybe wait until your 16 or 18 weeks.. Then they may be able to tell you then...

I wouldn't give up home just yet. 12 weeks is still fairly early and a baby's bits are still forming at this stage. They go on the 'nub theory' and it's all to do with the angle, but I don't think it is very accurate unless you have a very very very experience sonographer....

I'm going for my 18 week scan tomorrow and hoping for a pink one after 4 blue!

Hi sarahsboys,

I wouldn't give up hope yet either, 12 weeks is too early to accurately determine the sex of the baby using the traditional way of look at genitals the way they do at the 18-20 week scan - how did the sonographer tell? Was it a "toilet shot" like they do at 18-20 weeks, or was it by looking at the "nub" (ie, looking at a profile shot of the baby, and examining the nub)? This website explains the nub theory, which can be more accurate for determing the sex at 12 weeks. Still, its not totally accurate, but can give an indication http://baby2see.com/gender/external_genitals.html

Did you get any ultrasound pics that show a nub?

If not, don't give up hope yet, I've heard of a lady on another forum who was told boy at 15 weeks then went for her morphology scan around 19-20 weeks and it was a girl afterall!

Good luck! And good luck to starlet for today too!

No, nothing about a nub. He just said, here is one leg, and here is the other leg, and see that thing in the middle, my money would be on another BOY. One of the reasons, I sort of believe him is that he correctly told us the gender of DS3 at 12 weeks

Oh....well, I guess I can understand you feeling his guess is accurate, but there really is still a lot of ambiguity at that early stage. Try not to lose all hope yet. I'll have my fingers crossed for you.

Starlet - how did you go with your scan yesterday? And just wondering, did you do anything to specifically "sway" for a girl too?

You could still be having a girl. With my second I was told girl at 12 weeks and she was a girl. With my third they told me 60% chance its a girl at 12 weeks and at the 18/19 week scan I found out its a boy. We asked her about 5 times if she was sure. In the end the scan pictures we got had the boy bits circled

Goodluck!!! You have only been told 75% chance so anything can happen.

My sister-in-law was told at her 20 week scan that it was 85% chance of being a boy. Then, because there was that element of doubt, they asked at a much later visit and the doctor said, "Shhh...don't tell any one but pop into the next room and we'll do a scan and find out." The result - 95% certain it's a girl! No doubt the later the scan, the more definite the "diagnosis"! 12 weeks seems way too early to me.

I'm dying to know...whilst I get grasp the meaning of what "DTD" stands for, what does it literally stand for? I'm sure it's something more scientific than "DoIt To Death?" ;)

Sorry I forgot to come back and update but we are indeed having a girl, we saw 3 lines between the legs and she said 'I would say it's PROBABLY a girl', we had a trainee so she also got a side view and showed her the 'nub' and said 'from that, I am CERTAIN it's a girl'.

We didn't really do any kind of swaying, this baby kind of happened by accident and I had planned to try and sway when we TTC, but never made it that far.

The only difference is that this baby was conceived by having sex missionary and my boys were all with me on top. We had sex often(because we were living the fly in fly out lifestyle when I had DS3 and DS4, so only sex every 3rd week - but now that I think back, we didn't have sex from about 4 days before 'o' til about a few days after...other than that..nothing really different that I can think of, so I think we were very lucky this time.

One old wives tale that rang true was the way that your head faces when you sleep, thinking back all the boys were conceived with my head facing north and my girl was facing south...weird!
