Strange Symptoms- Advice Please???

i am new to this sit- so first of all- hello all!!

I was wondering if anyone had ever had a constant salty taste in their mouth as a sign of pregnancy?

In the last couple of days I have had a constant taste of se-water in my mouth. It gets worse whenever I eat or drink anything- even water! It even tastes like i'm smoking a roll up of salt when I have a cigarette.

I assumed it was just dehydration or something- but everytime I mention it to anyone, they ask if I am pregnant?? I thought pregnancy just gave some women a metallic taste?

My periods have always been very irregular and erratic but had seemed to settle down over the last six months or so- however last month it only lated one day which is unusual- I did a pregnancy test and it was negative.

Has anybody ever had this salty taste and then discovered that they were pregnant? I have 'googled' it and it is mentioned against many things- but not pregnancy??

I have not used any contraception for 7 years and haven't fallen pregnant yet so I am doubtful- but just a little curious as it is the first thing people are saying??

Hi how are you? I am sure that there will be some one on here who can help
you. There is alot of info on here. I personally have never heard of that but
that doesn't mean that it can't happen. Good Luck.

Hi Fairham, I have never heard of that either, but perhaps someone else can give you some advice. Have you thought of going to the doctor, especially since you had such a short period? If that was actually implantation bleeding and not a period, you could be into your 2nd month of pregnancy in which case smoking (and diet and everything else) could be having nasty effects!

Thanks for your replies. I did a pregnancy test last night- and one this morning- and both were negative! The strange thing is I have actually got nausea appearing along with the salty taste now! Oh well- it's obviously something else causing it!! :confused:

Well since my other posts things are getting steadily worse! I have nausea, dizziness, slight headache, can't stand the smell of chocolate (none of this is normal!!) And not forgetting the constant bad taste of salt in my mouth

I have done 2 pregnancy tests over the last few days (one this morning) and both were negative. Could it be too soon to tell? Or is it something other than pregnancy?

I had a normal period two months ago and then 28 days later a really light bleed from 1 1/2 - 2 days. It has only been 20 days since then! Surely I wouldn't even be having these symptoms yet, even if I was pregnant??

My best suggestion is to take urself off to the DR and soon it will put ur mind at ease and they can run more accurate tests (blood tests) that is about all ican suggest.

Thanks for your replies. I managed to get into the doctors om Friday. I did another test last night and got a (very) faint second line. Then did one this morning that came back negative. So I got an appointment- the doctor didn't do any tests or anything but said he is 90% sure I am pregnant because of my symptoms. He said there was no need for a blood test and made me give a urine sample instead- I now have to wait until Tuesday for the results!!! I've just bought a box of two digital tests (clear blue) and they both said "not pregnant"- so now I'm thinking the doctor probably just jumped to conclusions! (he even said congratulations as I left the surgery!)

I am a bit confused as to why you won't get your urine sample results back until Tuesday.... are they an instant result??? I would be definitely asking for a blood test if you are getting conflicting results on HPKs....

I was confused by that too- I would have thought a doctor would have been able to test urine samples there and then- but he sent it off to the lab!!

I have just phoned and the results are back- and are negative!! So who knows what the faint line was about!?! Maybe just a faulty test! :confused:

Well as I said yesterday I got my results back from the doctor and the urine test was negative.
Within the last couple of days my nausea has disappeared, but I am now in a great deal of discomfort around my belly. My usually loose trousers are tight and hurting me- due to the sheer size of my bloated stomach- it hurts to even touch my stomach- and I have sharps pains constantly in my right ovary!! I couldn't even BD last night because I feeel so uncomfortable! My fingers have swollen up- I have a slight backache- and a constant headache! I phoned the doctor again and can't get in until Friday now!!!

Far out Fairham. You sound like you are feeling very very uncomfortable. All I can think of is to maybe drink plenty of water, that will reduce any water retention that you may have and help any muscle sorness and rest girl. Try a warm bath or hot water bottle on your ovary?

Hi, Fairham. You know, another possibility is that you WERE pregnant, but aren't any longer. It could either be a "chemical pregnancy" (where you conceive but then have a period pretty quickly, and so the pregnancy ends), or it could be a "missed miscarriage", where the little embryo has stopped developing after a number of days or weeks. I had a m/c about 10 days ago, but the embryo had stopped developing weeks and weeks earlier. But my body still thought I was pregnant - I had a swollen stomach, sore breasts, nausea, the whole kit and caboodle. So maybe that's your explanation. The painful abdomen and sore back can be signs of an impending m/c - although the last thing I want to do is frighten you!! Just something to consider, and maybe chat to your doc about.

Yes a couple of my friends have mentioned m/c aswell. It' just annoying that I have to wait until Friday again. I have that funny taste in my mouth again this morning (like sea-water) - although thankfully my stomach is no longer hurting (although the backache is holding on for dear life!!)

There is a possibility I might be preggers & this morning I felt very nauseous on my way to work, I almost threw up. And then I got this strong salty tasting saliva, like I had a mouthful of salt. My period lasted 4 days, but it was VERY light.. almost more like spotting than like a period. But I also just started the pill on the first day of my period.. so I'm wondering if that maybe caused the very light period?? I haven't taken any pregnancy tests though... I'm gonna wait and see if I get my next period.
Strange how we both got the light period & the salty taste...
