DD has shot up in height and is very, very close to the maximum height for her Maxi Rider. She's still using the built-in harness as she's not at the maximum weight limit for that harness.

Of course, the one that was in an accident has had the straps cut to avoid getting confused, I would never sell a car seat that had been in so much as a minor accident because that would be endangering the life of a child which is what I would never, ever, ever do.

I'm just wondering if it's ok to sell a carseat that is still being used by my own child but needs replacing very soon. It's only 3 years old, it was bought just after she turned 3 and she's not long turned 6 now.

I feel a bit funny about selling it, even though I know that if it was in any kind of accident I'd have destroyed it immediately, but I know that the only time I've ever used a carseat is when the person who gave it to us received it brand new and used it as a spare then didn't need it anymore and it was less than a year old and I knew her and had spent lots of time with her and her DD so knew 100% without a doubt there was never an issue with safety regarding that seat. I would never buy one second hand otherwise, so feel funny about selling one second hand.

So my question is, do you think it's worth trying to sell it? It seems a shame not to since it's such a good seat still, and I was hoping to get a little money to go towards a seat for taller kids. Or is it better to just keep it as a spare for kids who visit and try to come up with the money for the new seat in another way.

Yeah i think it's ok if it's not in an accident. Think of it this way if they are going to buy 2nd hand they will even if yo aren't selling os beter them get your seat that has never ben in an accident than one that is. I sold DS's capsule this week n ebay for $311 it has never even been in a minor accident and the money will buy a new seat.

It's fine to sell it as long as it's in top condition and under 10 years old. The carseat my Mum has for DD is second-hand, and it's in PERFECT condition and is about 3 years old, too I think. It's fantastic.

KidSafe guidelines state that a carseat must not have been in an accident and be less than 10 years old for resale or use.

The other one I cut the straps off was in the most minor of accidents. I ran off the road to avoid a head-on collision on the highway and because of a ditch an an oncoming vehicle I drove off the road still doing 110 and hit the breaks really hard to stop us from going into a ditch. The seatbelt pulled and DD ended up with some marks on her from the harness so I figured they would probably have had impact damage even though there was no visible signs of it. I wouldn't dream of selling a seat like that, but have kept it here anyway with the straps cut to avoid confusion between the 2 seats. The other one has not been in any sort of accident ever. It was hard cutting the harness straps of a 3 year old car seat that cost $360 but safety comes first.

Given what you have said about the car seats condition i would have no hesitation in selling it. I personally think a second hand maxi rider in good condition would probably be safer than some new models of booster seat :)
