So DS wont self settle during the day anymore:(.
At night if he wakes up and isn't hungry he will (usually) chat to himself for a bit and then go back to sleep.
As soon as it is light, and any time I try to put him down for a sleep during the day he will chat to himself for a bit then get more and more upset until I go in and either pat his nappy or feed him to sleep.
He will however put himself to sleep sometimes if I lay down with him in my bed and pretend to be asleep myself.
My mum suggested getting a mobile to put on his cot to help him go off to sleep, but I'm sure the CHN said to me to keep the cot as plain as possible so there is nothing in there stimulating him when he's going off to sleep.
What do you do?
If you have a mobile that you like and think works, what brand is it, does it play music etc?
I think I quite like the idea of those ones that light up the ceiling like stars and play a bit of music, but would love to know what others have, what they think works or doesn't work.
Thanks :santa:

Absolutely not. DD is 4 months old and uses any excuse to distract herself and therefore stay awake. It drives me bonkers and a mobile would just be another thing to look at and keep herself awake.

I have both types. One that spins with animals hanging off and one that lights up the roof with stars and teddies etc. They are both brilliant. I bub woke or needed help off to sleep the mobile distracted them long enough for sleep to sink in

i have one of the fisher price soothers (the music things that hang off the cot that play music and have lights and music) DD is almost 3 and still has hers on her bed and DS is 8 months and has his on his bed too.
I found them to be great though if it is the middle of the night I have to check the sound is at its lowest and the lights are off (so its just the music) though I tend to only use it for day sleeps and to go off to sleep at night.
DD has had hers since about 3 months (from memory) and I got DS one at about 2 months when they went into the cot.
Just have to watch with moblies I am pretty sure they are not reccomended once bubs can sit up so you may not get too much use out of it.

We had one, DD just went nuts over it and cried because she wanted to hold the things hanging off the mobile.
We don't have it anymore
NOTHING in or around the cot (Just pictures on the wall...lol). I was worried that the mobile would fall on his face! I am a worry wart when it comes to things like that.

Really? He can sit up already :crying:!
And he is really grabby, so would no doubt want to grab at the mobile.
Hmmm.... maybe just a CD that played music, but I'm sure that something he could look at would help more....
Any other suggestions for me?
You have to be really careful with anything that you use as a sleep aid because if they have it once, they want it EVERY time. We learnt that the hard way and had literally everything going to try to get DS to sleep. It would work for a few days and then stop working so we'd go to something else. When we went to a day visit at a sleep clinic, they said we needed to bring in any 'sleep aids' toys, dummies, etc... so in I came with a tetra bed, special blanket, mobile, fisher price aquarium, dummy, cuddle toy, sleeping bag... I was SOOO embarrassing! The first thing they did was send me to the car with everything except for the dummy, his sleeping bag, cuddle toy and the music CD I had. He hasn't used the rest since and has been a lot better. I'm not going to lie.. it took a lot of 'getting used to'. I'm not one for allowing them to cry so it took ages but it has worked for us.
If you are considering something and you think it will work for you. A lot of people swear by the fisher price aquarium. It has different settings with lights and bubbles and lots of different music and sounds. DS loved it when we had it in his cot but he does ok without it now, so I'm not keen to put it back in!

The Aquarium is in the range of FP soothers that my 2 have DD has the Rainforest one (it has a cute monkey, fish and stuff in it) and sleeps fine without it and has most of the time she only turns it on some nights and DS has the precious planets (the newest range) which is cute has a lion, polarbear and fish (and something else I can't remember what) he doesn't always have it either (for exactly the reason that moozle said) he often puts it on in the morning or if he is awake in bed.
