View Full Version : The hows and whys of stripping
fleece nappies?
So, how and why to strip your fleece nappies. They obviously can have a build up of washing liquid / powder which can cause them to become less effective? Am I right? So how often do you usually need to do it if you are washing every second day or so?
They say you are supposed to do the rinse thing heaps until the suds are gone, how does one do this with a front loader? There is no rinse option.
Ok, that's enough stupid questions from me....now I will wait for the answers.....veve?
Well Happy Lady... you got my attention!
I thought this was a spin-off from the wackiest job thread!

I do believe I was summoned/?? I hope this helps!!
yes .. you strip the nappies due to detergent build up - it doens't happen all that often .. so just strip them when they start to smell ooohey (you know .. clean .. till the wee hits and then quite obviously wet ewwy smell) definately not too often .. every few months is heaps ..
ok - I contacted one of the adorable GREENKIDS ladies about this not so long ago .. and I was instructed to ... a) do a HOT WASH with the fleece nappies.. with no detergent (obviously .. these are clean nappies.. lol) ... but using 1/2 a cup of bicarb... b) then do at least one rinse cycle - poss two ...
I find it wastefull (water wise)to wash just a few fleece nappies like this .. so I also wash my hemp inserts... I dont know if that is a good or bad habit though .. lol
I'm sorry babe .. I dont own a front loader (always wanted one though) - surely there is some way to start a cycle midway/?? - otherwise I would just wash them as above.. and see if that helps???
ooh - and dont be afraid to contact ruth or sasha at greenkids .. they have excellent customer service and are yet to make me feel silly !!

Trust me Lut, I would have made a terrible stripper!
Thanks Jen, mine all seem fine at the moment. I knew you would have all the answers.:D
I've hear that you can use a little dishwashing detergent and give them a good hand wash (should be alot of bubbles) then you use really hot water and rinse until there is no more bubbles.
Great tip Mel. I might just do them by hand, when they need to be done. I don't have that many fleece ones anyway. Thanks.
