That is a vertical incision towards your belly button.;)
I had placenta previa and had a normal lower abdominal incision. They will do a scan to check the position of the placenta to see how it will be affected. If your placenta is anterior you will be more likely to have a classical incision (obviously). It would be hard to tell until very close to your edd. I know that people who have had transverse babies have had normal incisions, but again I think it depends on the individual circumstances. Good luck.

I've only had 3 bikini line cuts but have been told if I have another bub ill have to have a classical incision... while on this topic I know there are most risks with having this type of cut does anyone know any more info on this?

Sorry for hijacking here just thought it might be a good place to ask while on this topic!

Just wanting to know if anyone has had a 'traditional granny cut' when they had a c-section? Also, what were the reasons for the doctor using this method?

I have a low lying placenta and a baby in the transverse position at the moment, so I may need a c-section and have heard they usually use the 'traditional granny cut' in these circumstances. This method also makes it harder to have a VBAC too.

Also, was anyone able to have a bikini cut with a low lying placenta or because bub was in an unusual position?

I had placenta praevia (with the placenta actually in a very unsual placement - long story!) & a breech bub. I had a LSCS (Lower Section Caesarian Section) with no problems. I did ask my OB about it & he said that even in emergencies now they rarely do the traditional cut (vertical incison). It is always done as an absolute last resort.

I was given a lot of very informative brochures before my c/s. I'm sure you will be given them too, but if not be sure to ask.

I didn't have placenta preavia, but DD1 was deep transverse, so hence after a 50-something hour labour, i had an emergency c/s, with a bikini cut. The 'traditional' cut sounds really scary! :o

i had the bikini cut, he bogged, my cervix, and his heart rate dropped. So i got the low line cut. The vertical cut was used more a couple decades ago. Both my brother (37) and i (27) were both delivered into this world by the vertical method.

My sister had placenta previa and she had a bikini cut.

I also have a very close friend who has had 4 c-sections, 1-2 years apart for each pregnancy and they were all traditional cuts. Don't know the exact reason why they opted for that particular cut..but she's fine and she had no complications. In fact after her last c/section, she went straight back to work after 3 weeks!

I had the classical c-section (ie up/down cut) when i had my dd 6 years ago. I had a massive fibroid that prevented me from having either a vaginal delivery or bikini section.

The ob goes into your abdomen on the outside using a bikini cut, then reverts to a classical up/down on the actual uterus so you only get the bikini scar on the outside.

My recovery was the same as for a normal c-section.

One word of warning though - VBAC is not possible after a classical section because of the risk of uterine rupture. You would have to have a second c-section. although the risk is minimal it is still higher than after a bikini cut and worldwide protocols now insist that VBAC is too risky and must not be advised as being appropriate after a previous classical section.

I am pregnant again and my ob and i have agreed a date for my second section.

If i can help further...you all know where i am:hugs:

No problem. I know its hard to cut though the alarming info and get to the facts. Its really not as scary as it is made out to be so long as you understand the consequences. I am having a relatively normal second pregnancy and am not due to see my OB again for another 7 weeks. I am just seeing the midwife. It really is ok.:smiliedance:
