Just wandering how many of you ladies here have already bought baby things before even falling preg....
Do you find yourself ohhing and ahhing over all the baby things in the shops?
I am always tempted. But I haven't succumbed, I just worry that I will jinx myself. But you can bet as soon as I do fall pregnant again, I won't be holding back!
We've been ttc for 9 months and managed to hold of buying anything until last week. We had a voucher for Target and spent it all on baby clothes. Hopefully it's our sub concious trying to tell us something for this month! :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: Af due in 2 days
Me to.
I'm so old fashioned in that respect, not wanting to jinx anything I'll wait until I get that BFP before buying a thing, even then I'll do my best to just window shop untill 12 weeks. Can't wait to have an extra excuse to go shopping . . .
aside form the jinx, I'm worried it might take years and I don't want things around reminding me that I'm not up the duff yet.
At the moment I satisfy myself with gift for friends and relatives kids and just staying out of those shops.
I am with the," if I buy anything, will jinx myself" but I did end up with a nice pram, that I kept for myself, rather then sell in my shop this time.
I love window shopping!!!
I am clucky and I enjoy looking at the girls baby clothes as i never really went crazy shopping for my girl as a baby.
So I do look at the baby clothes.
Unfortunately don't buy so much as my baby is getting too big anyway.
I think I will wait til I am preg b4 I buy any more baby things.
I am sooooooooooo going to go crazy with shopping when i do get a BFP but for now I just window shop!
Although I have bought a couple of pregnancy books and about 8 pregnancy & birth/mother & baby type magazines... :D

i had bought heaps of stuff before getting pg, and now i am worreid that i have jinxed us somehow since we are not pg yet, so thats why i am selling it, and since we are now having a break from TTC
I fell pg unexpectantly while on the pill & as soon as I knew I started buying things, I just couldn't help myself :o Then I had a mc & so I boxed all the stuff I had brought up & put it away. DH & I started ttc a year later & as soon as I had gone off the pill, I let myself start looking at the stuff we already had, as well as start shopping for the baby I knew we would have :D I didn't think it was bad luck, I knew we would have a baby, I just couldn't tell you when.
Ciao,
Brooke.
doula, just remember there is no such thing as 'jinkxing'. You can always pack the things away out of sight instead of selling them?
I have been tempted to buy one little body suit, just to represent the fact we are tyring I guess but I think I will leave that until the BFP and see how the pregnancy goes until there.
Here is a thread I started a little while ago on this exact subject, you will see we are not all crazy! http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=20213
I have been tempted to buy really cute things I have seen but I won't until we get a BFP - although I have everything picked out including the pram, cradle etc ....lol ...dh thinks it's silly. I am thinking of buying some yellow booties to put under my pillow - it is supposed to be good luck for ttc - well it's an old wives tale anyway:)

Nooooo.....I'm too scared to. I wouldn't buy anything until well and truely over the 12/14 week mark. So scared of jinxing anything. But I do catch myself looking at all the lovely baby stuff ... and we need loads of it - we kept next to nothing

Same here Mummamoo, I gave my bassinette, rocker and highchair to my sister who is now in another state as we moved, so don't think it will be worth getting it sent down.
As for clothing, gave it all away etc as was adament was not having any more, did that after my first aswell
Hey Doula :hugs: there really is no such thing as jinx's . . . . there's loads of girls that have started buying early and have little bubba's. . . so don't worry about that.
I think a big part of waiting for me, is that buying baby stuff is something I see as part of the PG experience, so I want to save the fun up for then . . . something has to replace the bottle of wine on weekend

I have bought two books and a subscription to Pregnancy&Birth - thats it. Its just information - no baby items as such.
I dont believe in *jinx's*, but at the same time, I dont see the purpose in buying something that I dont need at the moment (not that my shoe collection would back that comment up)
Each time I fell pregnant I wanted to buy something - but I'm glad that I didn't. It would have been so much harder to grieve for our losses if I had baby things all around me. And so much more depressing when TTC!
Well i am the opposite to most of you! I have nearly everything!!!
Except a pram... if a baby were to land on my door step tomorrow i would be set, might need a few more clothes, but we could make do with all that i have.
I once read a story about 2 couples who were both TTC, they went and saw their rabbi, he told one couple to go crazy and buy as much as they wanted, as that would be their "sign" to god to show they are ready for a baby. He told the same thing to the other couple but they chose to buy nothing. 6 Months later he ran into both couples, the ones that had bought lots of things were pregnant and the other couple were not. He suspects its coz god doesnt think they are ready.....
I know its just another silly story but im sticking with the couple that DID buy things.... This is out 5th cycle of TTC so hopfully come the 6th ill be preg also!!
None of its out on display, its all packed away still in boxes and in plastic storage tubs. So its not like its a constant reminder. We are going to eventually have kids, and it really doesnt hurt the budget at the moment so spend $50 here and there, where as i think $50 is going to become a lot more valuable once im on maternity leave. SO stock up now i think
Well I've bought books and magazines, and when we first started I bought a mystery pack on ebay and that has bottles, bibs etc in it and recently we bought a play centre at myer on special.
We had a no purchase policy in our house but it gets so hard looking at all the things every month and hoping we get a positve so we can buy stuff.
Although I do know EXACTLY what I want to buy and have a list

We haven't even started TTC yet. I had surgery recently on pre-cancerous cells on my cervix. Appt with the Gyno next week, and hopefully he will say, "All clear, go make babies!" But last week, my sister was so excited(her kids are teenagers now, so she wants a baby to spoil!). She said she had bought the baby something. I said what baby?! She just couldn't wait any longer and bought the baby Elmo! I cried; I thought it was so sweet! Mum is also getting a rug knitted I think. Don't tell me this baby will be spoilt! I have been so tempted to buy stuff, but I want to buy it's 1st outfit at Pumpkin Patch. So will wait until we are actually pg. Oooh, I am getting sooo clucky!!!!
Nope, I think I would like to leave that joy to when I will be pregnant and the pregnancy well advanced. I always think ''If I start window shopping and buying baby stuff now, what am I going to do during the 9 months!''
In the hyper market, I only allow myself a glance when moving past the baby section but never go through the baby stuff on offer. I'm often surprised when DH suddenly smiles and says ''That section, we'll look at it in a few months, and I realise how unsuccessful my efforts are at not showing how much I am wishing it to happen!
Perhaps like most above, I subconciously 'don't want to jinx it' :)

I bought a bib that said "My mummy loves me" before I became pregnant with DS. I always felt like it was good luck because I concieved the next month. So this time around I bought a 0000 jumpsuit to have as #2's first outfit. Hopefully this will be lucky too.

I wasnt trying to conceive, so of course, i wasnt buying baby stuff...
But, on the other hand, if i were trying i might buy the odd thing here and there... like if theres a HUGE sale on or something
A few of my relatives bought a few baby items for good luck, guess it worked, coz they have babies now :p

While TTC I browsed on ebay at maternity clothes to get an idea of what was out there - I would have felt weird looking at maternity clothes in shops........but then I ended up buying a few things that were clearly bargains!!! I told myself that it wasn't silly because I could wear the clothes now as well as when pg. (Really versitile stretchy clothes that you can't tell are maternity wear  ) But I didn't buy anything else.
I was given some books and a stack of magazines which I found very informative...so I went out and bought some pregnancy magazines too. (Knowledge is power!!!)
This month I got a BFP and am sooooo tempted to go out and start buying soon because I know money will be tight later on, but I think I will wait until week 12 /14.
I know in my head that if something is going to happen it will whether I buy baby items or not, but if something does happen I don't know how I will deal with having those things in my house
Dh asked me today if I wanted to go and do some window shopping (he's excited!) so I think we'll do that to start with. At least this way when we are ready to buy we will have an exact list of items and which stores to buy them from :D

Looks like the bad luck thing may actually be good luck when buying before falling! I might buy something small next pay day :o ;)

I haven't got pregnant yet, but have nearly got the hole nursury.
I like to be ready for things.
But maybe I have gotten a bit carried away........... I don't care:p . I like to buy and have all the things.
I haven't bought anything yet, i keep thinking what if I can't have any more kids?
But we do have 4 kids here that are 4 years old and under, so still have lotsa of little clothes, I have been reluctant to give them away, 'just in case'.
when i was 18 i bought a pair of size 6 girls party shoes, from where i worked.
They are pale pink with glitter on them, and i knew when i had kids they would never be around. I was hoping not to jinx myself with girls... but it looks
like they will get use in the next 12 months or so:D

I am thinking of buying some yellow booties to put under my pillow - it is supposed to be good luck for ttc - well it's an old wives tale anyway:)
I have not heard this before, but I think i might have some yellow botties from DD, so they will be dug out of the cupboard & straight under the pillow tonight!!
I have been looking at maternity clothes already. I really really want some of the cute slogan t-shirts. the Baboig site is still under construction/maintenance, but I am keeping my eye on a few on e-bay. I might even buy a few plain t-shirts & go to spotlight for supplies & see what I can come up with myself. I can't wait to wear one while preggas!!
I don't think you can jinx yourself. I love all the ideas everyone has on it showing you are ready for a baby.

DH and I have almost the whole nursery already. When we first decided it was time to TTC DH got all excited and took me to babies galore and he went mad, worse then me...
But Also we are fostering so I HAVE to have stuff aswell so its kinda hard..
Arggghhh confusing!
I have been pregnant twice this year waiting until the two lines appear now to me mean nothing... if you want some thing buy it, you can always give it away as a present or save it for when you do have a little one. All i wanted was this mickey mouse bedding, my Dh told me to buy it and save it, i was a bit hesitant as it cost me $500 to get it to Australia but to me, if we dont have one i will adopt from OS and use it any way.
I've done a lot of time on e-bay scoping out Bugaboo prams! Tragic!!
I'm going to the UK in September and know they are much cheaper over there so would be half tempted to pick one up and bring back.
Have also scoped out the maternity wear, but not been tempted to buy yet. i'm in the 'might be tempting fate' camp.
I will also admit i bought a maternity dress last week on sale. It was excatly what i was after in anticipation forf 2 weddings and high school reunion next year. Did look nice with out belly too.

I have been wanting to baby shop since middle of last year when we started TTC#1. We are stil trying and I've yet to buy anything. However I do look on ebay & baby shops all the time & wish! My work friend is on Maternity Leave with erh 3rd at the moment & said I can have most of her things as soon as we conceive, so I also don't know what things we are & aren't getting (another reason not to shop).
On another note, one thing I wanted to do before conceiving was to lay that 'click' wood laminate flooring in the house, as the carpet is yucky & old. The idea of a child crawling on it creeps me out. We are installing new floor next week, so maybe this will be a positive step! I can't wait to start shopping, so keep telling my body to hurry up!

i didnt buy anything before i was preg
and once i was preg i only put a cot and pram on layby
everything else was bought after he was born except for a few clothes aswell to take to hospital
im a bit funny like that i didnt want to tempt fate
mMMM! interesting converstation.
I've got to say to Tara-Jane though:
Oh Gosh I am sorry but I think this story is just reinforcing jewish family sterotypes and fertility sterotypes, it's up their with the sterotypes that all jewish mothers are controlling and have big hair.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Really didnt mean to offend anyone or go along with sterotypes.... was just sharing a story i once read.........
Sterotypes usally only come about because of the majority is seen to be that way - if they werent ppl wouldnt come up with it in the first place.
I wasnt meaning to be prejudice in anyway.

I haven't bought anything yet except for two pregnancy books and a magazine.
But a friend of mine who is also TTC bought me a little blue hat with little pink flowers all over it. It's beautiful. So I've put it in a draw in the cupboard that all the baby stuff will go in.
(DH and I are praying for a girl, hence why my friend bought me a little girls hat)
:fingerscrossed: that these sore and swollen boobies are a good sign :)
