my ds chucks the biggest sads wen i put him in his cot wen he has asleep he will just cry and cry until i lay with him on my bed! i read in another post about using a cot as a 'side car' ! well my questions are how do u keep it from moving and how do other ppl using it find it?

it seems like a good idea then i get to co-sleep, which i love, and bubs and i have more room (oh and df too):D

no co- sleeping here. i had ds in bed with me at the hospital which was not ideal but as soon as we got home, he slept in his bassinette in our room for a couple of months then we got him a cot and moved into his own room. he has always been comfy and sleeping well.
whenever he gets grumpy, we try to bring him in but he always thinks its playtime as he loves to play on our bed.

I have one in the bed and one side carring at the moment. I haven't bothered to attatch it to the bed at all as she is still really little and sleeping in a snuggle bed in the cot (she can't go anywhere in that!). I know that some people do attatch them....there's a thread around here about it somewhere, will have to do a search.
I love the side car thing. It makes it so much easier through the night and they love to know you are close. :)

We have the cot jammed between the bed & the wall, it goes no-where

I side-car, our cot is pretty old (not ancient, but what I'm saying is the castors won't move very easily) so it doesn't move unless pushed. I was going to attach it but find I can't make our bed easily unless I move it. When he gets a bit older I am not sure what I'll do. My bed is really high off the ground (it's old too) so I've got some foam underneath his mattress to get him at my level. So as soon as he's able to sit up it probably won't be very safe. I'll probably end up either getting a new bed, or putting the bed in the spare room and just having my mattress on the floor with him.

The way I was going to attach it was just with some cable ties. Or you could even just tie the legs of the cot to your bed, with some rope or even like a dressinggown cord, if you double tie it, it shouldn't move. That way you could untie it if needed. I highly recommend side-carring, it's wonderful. He spends the 2nd half of the night right next to me snuggled up - and people say to me "oh you'll never get him out of your bed" but you know what? Some nights he gets cranky and fidgetty and won't settle unless I put him into his side-car. If you give enough cuddles he won't be desperate for them, that's how I see it. :D

 We aren't up to sidecarring just yet but I remember with DS#1 and DD, when they went into big beds I got a wooden playpen, opened the hinges and rearranged it to be three sided then put it around the top half of the bed. To keep it there I ran string from side to side, going between the mattress and the base. This could be a way to attach the cot to the bed too!:D
