I did another preg test, got a referral thingy for a blood test and a dating ultrasound (as i was not sure of dates) and had a generel chat about hospitals/ob's and got a referral for an ob. Was all over very quickly!

Firstly, congratulations on BFP...

You can probably expect, another pregnancy test (depending on the doctor), questions about last period, OBs, hospital you'd like to go to, etc and he might send you off for some blood tests....

Nothing too scary...

Hmm so coz i got two definate lines at 8 days past AF due, could i not be pregnant? (That was after 3 mins - test said can take 5-10 mins but i only waited as it also said if pregnant more likely show at 1 min) I keep thinking im not now.. LOL although im pretty sure i am seeing as im getting the symptoms LOL

I think im just being a finicky new mum - sorry all!

Hi Aqua

Firstly congrats on the BFP!! Yay for you :smiliedance:

And secondly if you have 2 lines 8 days after AF is due, you are pregnant.

My doc didn't re-test. He just said start taking folate (DS was kinda an oopss) and gave me a referral for my first ultrasound. He also worked out my EDD.

What to expect?

Expect to be disappointed about how little they do and how uneventful it is!!

You might get to pee in a jar if you're lucky.

^LOL yeah. Mine are usually pretty uneventful as well.
My Dr doesn't redo the pregnancy test, she says HPT's are as reliable as the test she uses in her office. She will do a blood test if the HPT is ambiguous but if you have a clear BFP she doesn't bother.
Gives me a referral for the blood tests and an early u/s (just my history I always get them)....takes my BP, weighs me, and gives me a referall for the hospital.
That's about it :)

With Vallerie the doc just said "well those tests are usually pretty good, here's the number for the hospital, call them to make a booking in appointment. Congratulations!" and that was it.

With Curtis I did have to pee in a jar, and she sent me for an ultrasound because I was completely unsure of dates.

The first real appointment is with the midwife, usually towards the end of your first trimester. With my first I went at 11 weeks, 2nd I went at 8 weeks (with the 2nd I wanted to have the NT scan though, so I went early).

Yep, GP visit after you find out you are pregnant is pretty uneventful ... you expect bells and whistles and streamers ... but no, none.

My GP did a urine test (the same one I did at home, I expected something fancier !!) to confirm. Congratulated me. Then gave me my options. My care options, hospitals, and advice on the steps to take now. I think my GP may have ordered a scan when I was preggie with Ellie because I was unsure of dates, but that was just to work out how far along !

Congratulations again on your news, it's really such a special time ... and you'll soon find that pregnancy (especially the first time around) is just as consuming as TTC, but you get fatter !!!!!!!!

I had nothing. Just got a referral for the 12 week scan and a referral for a blood test and then a "Good Luck."

Yeah that is all my doc done for me aswell after that I haven't even seen him I call to make appointment and the receptionist put me directly through to him and he asks me what I need and he send all the referals off.
