Hi Everyone,

DH and I are currently TTC #2. We are hoping for a girl. I'm wondering how successful intercourse timing is for gender selection.....I'm really interested to know how many of you conceived a girl when you DTD either the day before O or the day of O and how many of you conceived a boy with this timing.

TIA

We did not try but have 4 girls and come to think of it most likely conceived before ovulation...

Hello, we have 3 boys and are currently pregnant with our 4th. we tried for a girl this time and DTD every day from the end of my period to 3 days before O. Will let you know if it worked, in about 8 weeks!

A boy :D According to the Billings method, DTD on the day of O gets a boy, 2-3 days before O gets a girl, and it worked out true for us.

We dtd the day before, day of and day after ovulation and I'm pregnant with a girl. I was sure it would be a boy because of what Billings method etc says but the ultrasound tech was pretty certain we have a girl, will see in a few months I guess!

We also dtd 5 days before O so perhaps that was the one that did it?

Might have been ;) That or you could of been a day or 2 off on when you thought you ovulated.

Nope, I'm 100% sure of when I ovulated as I has been referred to the FS and had an ultrasound/bt to confirm o.

I think there was a thread a while back about this and there wasn't a huge correlation between when you bd and what sex bubs turns out to be. I think timing when you dtd can stack the odds in your favour but it's def not a guarantee!

We have a girl and I think we dtd up until 2 days before o.
When we try again for our second we are hoping for a boy so will try from o day and hope it works.

Hi all,

I decided to chart temperature and do an O test to swa towards a Boy... i think i got too excited and when the O test came up positive (meaning O would occure within 12-48 hours) we BD and i just found out we are having a girl.

According to my temp charting i O the next day.

As we plan to have only two, the next one i will try maybe the day after O according to Temp charting and an O test. (I've always wanted one of each)

Thanks for all the responses.

So the poll is about 50/50 atm. I've been doing a lot of reading about BD timing and gender swaying and there's so much contradictory information out there. Shettles/Billings has been refuted by several researchers. I asked my OB and she told me that there's really nothing you can do to sway the odds - its a 50/50 shot. So going by the poll so far looks like it is the case.

It will be very interesting as more people poll whether the odds change.

Thanks again :xmas:

We BD 5 days before O (not with any intention of gender swaying, we weren't ttc at all actually). I presumed it would be a girl but nope, little boy. I agree with your ob, all just down to luck of the drawer :goodvibes:

we BD 4 days before O so we will see what happens when I have the scan. I also charted my ph levels and I was on 5.0 and we did the right positioning :o for BD. Hopefully we have enough odds stacked on our side for a little pink.

We did the pills (cranberry, calcium, magnesium etc) and positioning and timing for a girl. Ended up being 3 days before. I'll also let you know how it goes. I didn't delete the salt form my diet (I tried but just couldn't do it)... so we'll see. I wouldn't mind another son, my first born son is a beauty... so it was more to just sway the odds just slightly to see if we could have a little lass.

Will keep you posted. I'm just thrilled that I am pregnant and we'll be having a new addition to our family. Best of luck to you all!

We would kind of like another girl next seeing as we have 3 boys and 1 girl - it doesn't really matter but if it balanced out a bit more that would be cool.

I have looked into the timing thing and I am also looking at PH levels....taking magnesium, calcium, cranberry and have cut down on coffee and bananas. I worked out I was acutally on magnsium/calcium tablets when we conceived DD - coincidence maybe? It can't hurt to try anyway...

We conceived right on O for at least 2 of our boys.

Hi all,

We have 2 boys - first one was conceived by BD'ing on CD's 7, 11, 13, 15 & 16 - O'd on CD 15.

2nd boy - were swaying for a girl, using timing method only. BD on CD's 7,9,11,12,13 and stopped there, O'd on CD15.

Didn't make any diet changes or anything, and now wish we had, because its beginning to become clearer to me that timing alone really doesn't have a huge affect on swaying.

Other things I have now realised we did that were boy friendly for conceiving the 2nd boy were things like drinking too much Green Tea (increases CM), taking antibiotics before O, using Preseed lubricant, and DH drinking far too much coke and our diets are way too salty.

if we try again, I will definitely look into diet changes, checking PH etc, as well as timing, however I'm beginning to think I'm just destined to have boys and really can't see a little girl in my future no matter how much I'd like one.

good luck!!!

We have 4 girls and another due in April. :cloud9:
For us, timing or position hasn't made a difference, 2 were a couple of days before O, 2 were at time of O and our new one just after O!

As to diet, there may be something there, but I am not sure that the same diet rules apply to everyone. For many years I have been taking a calcium Magnesium supplement for a health condition, which is supposed to go good for a girl, and here I am 5 girls later.:yelclap:
On the other hand, drinking coke is supposed to be bad , yet my hubby is an addict.

I do wonder if some men are more predisposed towards one sex or the other. Some families seem to have generations of mainly girls or boys. My hubby has only girl cousins aunts etc for example.

Either way, it seems that the same rules don't apply to everyone in their quest for a pink or blue bundle of joy!

Good luck! I have my :fingerscrossed: that you are growing a girl. I have no experience with th 'O' thing. I have PCOS so I have no idea when or if I 'O'.
I only posted because every time i see your user name it makes me smile. I currently have 2 sons and am almost 18 weeks pregnant. I never realised until now that I actually want a girl and if we have a girl we want to call her Sarah. So in some stupid way I'm hoping your user name brings me luck:o

Yeah DF's family on the fathers side only ever had boys for a fair few generations, and the only girls were the ones married into the family! until now im pregnant with the first girl in there family for a long time! its crazy!

Hi All,

Please forgive my ignorance I am VERY interested in this thread as we are currently TTC and as we have 2 beautiful girls I would really like a boy but as I am new to Bub Hub I am still trying to figure out the codes such as DTD and O's :o, so if someone out there would be so lovely as to "dumb" it down for this newbie and explain all the coding and when is a good time to try for a boy?? Sorry and thanks to anyone who can help :hugs:

Hi MissW- I'm new here too (although I did a bit of "forum hopping" when pregnant with my first about 3 years ago). The "O" everyone is talking about is the date of ovulation (usually around 2 weeks after your period starts), as for DTD I don't know the actual abbreviation, but from what I can gather it refers to the date that the kazbar is/ was rocked ;), so maybe "doing the deed".

We have just found out that I'm pregnant (only 4-5 weeks so being very cautiously optimistic), and after having 2 boys I did start out trying for a girl. Timing seems the most logical (ie scientifically based) to me, with research saying that "girls" are slower but stronger than the fast but weak "boys" so having some loving prior to ovulation means that by the time you ovulate the hare-like boys have all been waiting too long, but the 'tortise' girls mosy on in right on schedule.
Also on this theory is that the lower the sperm count the higher chance of girls (again, since they are the stronger ones they will "outlive" the boys once the count starts dropping). Obviously this is daddy's department- Things like tighter jocks (rather than boxers), hot showers/ baths, increased "flush outs" (either with or without you ;)), all are said to decrease sperm count. Although this probably isn't something that should be taken too lightly as it may cause other issues.
Diet is also said to play a part, and I did try to eat more dairy and nuts (protein), but as soon as I didn't get pregnant in the first month I gave up (esp with a nearly 3yo and 1.5yo to feed, who can be bothered!).
(Obviously if you are hoping for a boy reverse everything)

Anyway, like I said I was initially hoping for a girl, but I am now pretty wrapped to have either (although 3 under 3.5 will be crazy regardless of gender!).

While I was interested in the topic of gender "swaying", I always maintained that it's generally a 50/50 chance, but what's the harm in trying to sway the odds to 51% my way?

Best of luck :)... and sorry for getting a bit carriend away! :ecomcity::ecomcity::ecomcity:

I have 3 girls and I have to say that the deed was done before O day. We were too excited about getting pregnant again to wait. I am of the scientific frame of mind. Will be trying for a boy this time and waiting until O day. We'll see. I also believe that genetically some couples are meant to have one sex or the other. Maybe natural selection?

i voted girl- but actually I should have voted for both! Once I got a boy, once I got a girl. Each time we bd right through to O. I totally dont believe in the timing.... I really think its changing your ph- thats what we did differently the second time!

we both changed our diet- ate lots of dairy, and gave up caffeine

I took cranberry supplements,as well. We did the hot baths before dtd, tight boxers as well- and TMI!!! jump and dump LOL I cant remember it all, but I researched lots and lots! I did whatever anyone said to do- except the timing. I had read on other websites that it didnt really influence gender much.

i agree with ngplus3- While I was interested in the topic of gender "swaying", I always maintained that it's generally a 50/50 chance, but what's the harm in trying to sway the odds to 51% my way?

We did the tango always before ovulation and we have 2 girls, now that I'm trying for bub #3 Im going to have fun with the whole gender swaying thing, my diet has always been salty and I got 2 girls so dont know about that one, Im just going to try the timing and drink lemon squeezed in water to help with the ph, the more alkaline you are the better chance of male sperm surviving his journey;)
