Just hoping to get some ideas on what to put in a baby hamper. It's for my DH's boss! I just love the idea of buying lots of little things....

A little pack of baby nail clippers, baby nail scissors, baby hair brush and baby hair comb.

Muslin wraps.

Nappies.

Nappy sacks.

My friend put one together one of those nappy cakes herself for me.

I did one for my cousin not long ago. I put in baby bath, bepanthan cream, booties, a couple of snappies, massage oil, and some really nice bubble bath for her. There was other stuff but I can't remember them now :D oh those gel teething rings and an outfit too.

the best things i recieved as presents in a basket included:-

a mini bottle of champas and a little box of chocolates
muslin wraps
baby nail clippers (as PP said)
baby face washers
baby soaps/lotions/oils
baby singlets
bibs (these came in handy 4 months down the track!)

in regards to the nappy cake - i received a nappy cake (and i really dont want to come across as ungrateful here at all) but the nappies were a different brand to what I had preferred and becuase they were all newborn size, and i already had 6 boxes of newborn (yes overprepared) and then my man was in 'infant' after 2 weeks! I had to give the nappy cake away - bit the cake did get used after my friend passed it on to another friend haha

i looove buying baby presents :)

Like others have said, creams and lotions, baby massage oil etc, but I recommend you suss out what kind of stuff she likes first, I got heaps of Johnson and Johnson and Curash stuff and would've preferred something with less fragrance or organic etc...

some face washers, baby rattles/toys, board books, a nice towel, some wraps/blanket, nice things like that...

And of course something nice for mum, maybe some nice creams or oils for her post-baby tummy, or for sore nipples (if she's planning on BF) and some chocolates to eat in hospital.

Baby's first toothbrush and toothpaste..

I loved getting things for when they are a bit older

At my baby shower my friend gave me two little boxes
One was full of useful little things for bub, I can't even remember what was in there but I know I used them all
The other small box had things for me in hospital, mini bottle of shampoo and conditioner, mini toothpaste, mini deodarant, chocolates, lasinoh...
That's the gift that I loved the most because it took alot of the hassle out of packing my hospital bag, I just threw all the mini things in it :)

I'd check oiut what their "Style" is first. A basket full of Johnson & Johnson products, pacifiers and throw-away nappies is not something I would have appreciated. A small keepsake teddy, wooden rattle, and perhaps a Mem Fox book would be more my style.

I agree with anonnymouse, i didn't use any johnson and johnson product (actually I never used any product, only natural things like cornflour) and I have bottles of the stuff that were given to me.... I'm just waiting to find someone to give it to that will use it.

Bubbie sleeping bags (like the grobags) would be handy- you can never have too many... but you always try and run on one or two as they are expensive.

Maybe look to include a really cool toy- Like a friend gave me a country road bunny, cotton plain floppy eared floppy legged thing and it is my DD's favourite toy.

A massage voucher for mum??

I would try and avoid chocolates, as if she is breast feeding she might not be able to eat them.

In my friend's hamper, aside from the usual things she had requested (like wash, wipes etc) I put a breastfeeding log book, the Very Hungry Caterpillar board book, a hooded towel, a really lovely rattle, a nursery rhyme cd and book, muslin wraps (the extra large size!), some feeding spoons I found were good and disposable bibs. And other stuff but I can't remember now! We had a fairly big budget between me and another friend so we had a bit of $$ to play with.

Agree with PP who have said find out what their style is and what products they prefer.

Those all sound like lovely ideas that would suit anyones style
I found the disposable bibs I was given very useful

I agree with PP
I still have 10 dummies I didn't use because they're the cherry type and I use the orthodontic type
I have about 20 bottles of soaps, shampoos, lotions, oils, baby powder I didn't use and especially not now as DD has eczema
I have lots of bottles I didn't use because I prefer one brand - but I've filled some up with macaroni and rice to be nice shakers for bub
I could fill a hamper with the things I didn't use here

I was given a lovely little book that might be suitable for a hamper called - You're a Fabulous Mum - despite the stale bread, unmade beds, and guilty thoughts in your head. It's a great little laugh and especially good for those times when you're feeling vunerable because everyone is throwing different conflicting advice at you

I got a lovely hamper when I had DS. This is what was in it:
The johnsons Natural soothing range
baby powder (I wouldn't add this because so many people don't use it due to health risks)
Huggies newborn disposable wipes (The only disposable wipes we could use on DS)
cute rattle
little material book
some bonds socks
some bonds singlets
bepanthen nappy cream
nail clippers
pigeon toothbrush kit
little baby brush & comb set
some hand cream for me
a small box of chocolates
wraps
dummy (not the type DS liked)
some facewashers
some bibs
antibac hand wash
terry nappies

She gave me it all in this huge wicker basket but you could put it in a laundry basket or nappy bucket. Both would come in handy later on.

I got a whole heap of stuff I didn't end up using too! We still have a mountain of stuff in our bathroom cupboard from when DD was born (17 months ago!) which we've never used. Occasionally DF will use some on himself if we run out of bodywash or something. :p

The things I found most useful were things for a bit later on down the line. I got some great sippy cups, bowls and small spoons etc for when we hit solids as well as a mountain of bibs which were really helpful. We also got a dummy ribbon thing in a hamper from my MIL and despite not planning on using dummies our plan changed and the dummy ribbon was a life saver in the car! We attatched it to DD's headrest so when she lost her dummy I could just reach back, find the dummy ribbon and there was the dummy!

Depending on my budget I would put in

- a book
- a nice rattle
- muslin wraps
- organic baby moisteriser (Baby Olive is beautiful)
- Lansinoh cream
- BPA free spoons and bowl

I was given a bunch of Johnson and Johnson stuff which I regifted, I won't use that stuff on myself let alone my baby. I was also given a heap of bibs which I found pretty useless, most were too small for anything other than drool catching.

Hi OneCheeky Monkey, where can I find the organic baby moisturiser?
I had no idea a lot of mums don't like Johnson and Johnson products. Do they irritate baby's skin???
