DS still doesnt have 1 darn tooth, but is teething incredibly bad over the past 2 weeks... to the point where he is screaming on & off every half hour throughout the entire night :dizzy: ( sooooo much worse than a newborn i kid you not)
he has been taking baby neurofen every day for the past week, as he also had a really bad virus, plus an ear infection that he is also on antibiotics for :(

soooooooo to get to the point, how long is too long to be using neurofen, panadol etc etc
I spoke to 3 different chemists today & they all said dont use longer than a week straight...
what do you all use for long term really bad teething??? (i asked all of them about the hylands teething tablets but none of them stock them)
he is in sooooooooo much pain, screaming 24/7 & because its been a week on the neurofen now I dont know what to do, as i dont wanna pump too many drugs into him

Have you tried any of the Bauer's products? We use them for teething and I think they also stock a general pain relief mix as well. They're all natural and very good. We also give DD cold teething rings and she also enjoys chewing on a damp face washer, for some odd reason.

yep agree with elleandmum, brauers and cold face washer! also you can get those little food mesh bag things from like kmart and big w, put some ice blocks in them for him to suck and chew on. It may not be teeth though, sounds like the poor little bugger has a lot going on so it may just be the other stuff, ear infections are the pits!

Of course a chemist would say that, it's not a medicine, it's an all natural product ;)

We use them here all the time and think that they are great.

There is two different strengths of neurophen, pink is stronger than the white. I use the pink (infant drops), as well as panadole. Go for a week, 2-3 days off, than back if they need it.
Teething tablets & Bauer's products dont do anything for us.

Smart chemist

I pointed it out to one that they are different & they looked at me as if i had 2 heads..

If you havent already maybe try H on panadole as well.

Hylands teething tablets are the BEST. They are homeopathic, natural and have a 100% money back guarantee. Give them to bub right before bedtime and you'll get a few hours solid sleep before you hear from bub again.

Another Hylands Teething Tablets lover here. They work wonders.

You can buy them at Priceline.

I feel your pain!! DD has had a virus for about a week and is teething at the same time too :hair:. I've been giving her Nurofen at night before bed but as soon as that wears off she's back to screaming again. She's been so clingy during the day and i can see she's obviously in pain but i'm reluctant to give her Nurofen during the day as i have been giving it to her for about 4 nights straight and was worried she might get addicted to it or something . I might give the Hylands a go tomorrow and see if that works, i know not alot of places stock them but most Bloom's Chemist's have them.

:hugs::hugs: to you and your DS, hopefully they come through soon (my DD's actually cut through last night so hopefully the pain eases soon :))

Im another fan of Hylands teething tablets, they work wonders, during the day they will settle DS right down from being so cranky to pain free and peaceful, at night he gets good solid sleep on them. I swear by them.

I also love Bauer teething relief, works for DS also the bauer calm is excellect for teething, makes them sleep.

DS had a bad time cutting the molars, was in alot of pain to the point i took him to the doctors and the doc told me about pain stop, DS was 10 mths at the time so the doc worked out a dose for his age and weight as its not meant for under 12 mths.

Like u, i also worry about giving too much panadol and neurofen, i give it 3 days at the most then stop for awhile unless he really needs it.

yet another :iagree: LOVE them

i have even used them (i was desperate and teething...damn wisdom teeth ) and they are fan-flippin-tastic.

we use them and a amber teething necklace and DD2 has not had a bad day since we started. she cut her first tooth at 5 months (then the bugger went back down :() and she was a nightmare, poor little bub was in so much pain. we then got the hyland teething tablets and she was great with them but would still be in a bit of discomfort here and there so i got the necklace and smooth sailing since.
the tablets we use when she is going to bed and the necklace stays on 24/7.

no if i can just stop the bucket loads of dribble life will be sweet :p

We use the teething tablets here, and when things are really bad, the SM-33 gel. It is over the counter, but you usually have to ask for it. It has lidacane (sp?) in it, so VERY effective ..... much better than bongela.

Just a little side note about the nurofen drops - DD had one dose last week and went absolutely hypo. They contain colouring 122 (not that they put this on the label of course) that some kids just can't tolerate. It has been banned in many countries, and restricted in others due to the behavioural effects it has on small children (under 3). The other nurofen products are colour and sugar free, so don't have the danger of causing this problem. Took DD over 8 hours to calm down. She was exhausted, and distressed from the 'high' it gave her. We'll never use the drops again.

I sent a message to nurofen via their website about DD's reaction, and they rang me within about an hour to discuss the reaction and offer to refund the cost of the medicine etc. The lady was lovely, but couldn't really answer my question of why this information and possibly a warning of a possible side effect was not present on the label, box or product info sheet.

Just thought you'd like to know .....

Try a Baltic amber teething necklace. Goggle them, usually you can only find them online. Also an online chemist will have the Hyland teething tablets.

:iagree: We LOVE teething tablets! We *sometimes* use them to calm her during the day when she is grizzley, which probably makes me a bad Mummy, but it works! We bought ours from Blooms.

Miss K feels like she has been teething for months and is only *just* cutting her first tooth. You can see the first 2 or 3mms of it. She has been so clingy and whingy. She also has a dribble rash and has been pulling her hair (plus mine :hissy:) and scratching her head.

She also likes nibbling on frozen beans due to the cold :yelclap:
