can anyone help me...
DS is 6 months old and we have been going well with solids for about four weeks. started out with rice cereal, then progressed to fruit and vegies.we are in a great routine with 'luchtime' (fruit) and 'dinnertime' (vegies) but breaky is a mess! he just is not interested anymore.
i'm not sure if he is simply bored with rice cereal (which i could completely understand!!) or just doesn't need the third meal?? does anyone have any ideas/experiences?? also any suggestions about different cereal that are ok but have a bit more flavour?? i was going to try good old weet bix but have heard that you aren't supposed to give wheat till 12 months?
i am also struggling with the timing of breaky... was giving sometime after first morning bf, usually after sleep, but this often ends up being too late in the day. is it ok to give before first bf?? doesn't seem right

Hi! My DD is 7 months old now and she is still only having rice cereal for breakfast! Although we have gone the next one up in Farex (red label) and she seems to love it. I dont see the point in changing it yet. They dont know any different - it isnt a bad thing. She also has fruit for lunch and vegies for dinner.
My DD has her solids straight after her morning BF. If you give them their solids before a BF they wont take as much milk. :)
Introducing wheat too soon can result in an intolerance later on. (And coming from someone with an intolerance, its a big fat pain!!)
Hi Jem,
My DD is now 10 1/2 months and has really only for the last month or so continually had breakfast. I am still BF and found that she had quite a big morning feed from me and just wasnt' interested in Breakfast. She is now having a BF at 7am and then breakfast at about 7.30 then down for a nap at 8.30. Its up to you what order you do things in. Its okay to give solids first if your son will tolerate it. Unfortunately Tayla is keen for the BF first up so we have stuck with that for now.
It might also be a change in tastes and he mightn't want the rice cereal anymore. I have been giving Tayla baby Porridge (I use the organics brand) with my own apple/pear puree in it to increase some of the taste which she seems to love. Why don't you try putting some pureed fruit in the cereal for some added taste.
Don't stress about brekky too much. they will have it when they want. Weetbix is okay for them as it doesn't have much sugar and is better than a lot out there. Tayla now also shares my sultana bran (she gets the flakes only) and loves it so its no longer mummy's breakfast any more ...its our breakfast.
Good luck, sounds like he is going great guns with his food.
Cheers,
:)
My little one got bored with rice cereal too, so I started adding fresh fruit to it and this helped. She is now almost one and for the past month or more she has been having one and half weetbix with half a mashed banana for taste for her breakfast - she loves it! Robin Barker's 'Baby Love' says its okay after 6 months and that's my bible!
hey Jembelina, have you tried the pear and banana farex? My dd is not too keen on the plain farex but loves the pear and banana one. I had a taste, and was suprised at how sweet it was! I now make a half and half mixture (half plain and half pear and banana) which dd will happily take.

The Heinz banana rice cereal was VERY popular with my DS.
Also plain rice cereal with any sort of pureed fruit mixed in, apple, pear, peach....whatever..
Adult cereals (such as weetbix) shoudnt be given until after 12 months because the fibre content is too high for little bubbas tums.
There is a great book out called "Breast, bottle, bowl" and it will give you some great ideas for food. It is written by a great friend of mine who is a dietician and i trust her completely.

My daughter is 9 months old and I give her Heinz Banana Porridge. I warm in up in the microwave for her and she just loves it. There is few different ones I give her for breakfast, she also loves the apple and oatmeal.
