My dd is getting baby sat by my mum next week
I'll be leaving her at 8.30ish straight after a feed. And than picking het up at 3ish during the time I'll be leaving some frozen ebm for mum to use. How ever mum has a doctors appoinment that she needs to take dd with
her to at 9.30ish. I'm affraid she will be hungry again as she is sometimes but don't know what to give mum while she is out since the milk will go off. Should I just give mum one sachet of formula just in case while she is at the doctor???

how hot will it be where your mum is?

Unless it's crazy boiling hot or she'll be outside for a long period of time, your mum can just take the bottle of EBM with her (just get her to thaw it out and get it to room temp before she goes).

even if it is hot, she can just put it in a small cold bag (I have an avent one, but you could just buy a generic one), and the baby could have it slightly cool, if necessary.

My partner did it all the time when our baby was younger (he's old enough to got several hours without a feed now).

ETA: you can leave milk out at room temp for several hours, provided it's not too hot.

Hey there. Give ABA a ring, their hepline is 24 hour and it's free: 1800 686 2 686. They'll have some suggestions for you. I don't think you'll need to give the bub ABM, but ABA will be able to give you concrete facts :)

They also have a booklet for grandparents and on expressing and storing breast milk that might have some useful info for your Mum (the booklets are $5 each)

You won't need the formula.

It's stressful working out all the logistics of leaving your baby with others when breastfeeding.

I went to a wedding when my son was 8 months, and I spent months stressing whether I'd have enough bottles of EBM etc. I lost a bit of sleep over it.:D So I understand why you feel apprehensive.

But it'll be okay.

The odds of your LO getting hungry while out with your Mum at the doc (especially if it's barely an hour since thelast feed) is pretty slim I'd say. It will be a new environment with lots of people to look at and things going on, and away from your familar breastmilk scent. And even if she did, I'm not sure your Mum is going to be able to go and warm up a bottle of milk to feed her with in the waiting room or in the doc's office.

Round here EBM is like liquid gold and I tend to leave it frozen unless I'm absolutely certain it will be drunk. I freeze it in flat ziplock bags so it defrosts and warms to a nice drinking temp in 90 seconds in a sink of hot water.

I have about 4lts of emb stored in zip lock milk bags in 110-160mls lots
but yep mine is gold too lol I hate defrosting it unless needed
Lilly needs 50-70 mls of emb every night it frustrates me if she wants to leave 20 mls in the bottle lmao :D
