Does anyone know anything about getting a paternity test?

How can you get one (if you're a man)? Costs involved? Anything else?

Any info would be much appreciated! (It's not for me btw...)

Well, if you're a mother to be (or a mother already) I imagine that you can just whisk your baby off to wherever and get it done...

However, if you're a man, and you're unsure as to whether the baby is yours or not...how can you get the woman and the baby down there to get it done? Other than asking of course...I mean...is there some sort of court-order you need?

Paternity tests are for testing who the father is...so yeah.

Depending on who you go through is how much it will cost. Tests can range from around $200 - $1200.

You can get "do it yourself kits at home" but cannot be used in a court of law for custody or child support claims.

Or you can get it done professionally and those tests can be used for all reasons.

Also if the mother's willing, and there's no child support claim at the moment, you can go through legal aide to get the paternity test done - so that child support can be paid - I had to go through it with my daughter, and it didn't cost anything at all, but it did take awhile to organise. You also need a recent passport photo, and the mother, father and baby all need to get swabs done.
